Salary Range: $76,100 - $90,000
General purpose: This is a senior-level position that provides: leadership for the Office of Events; oversight of planning, organization, and implementation of events for both internal and external audiences. This position will support and advance the institution's mission and goals, with events contributing to the accomplishment of objectives related to academics, advancement, external partnerships, and community support. The Director serves as: administrative support for all events, responsible for the control of all College facilities when used for both internal and external events, conferences, seminars, workshops, and other events; and the liaison administrator for College events that are off-campus. The Director serves as the chief administrator for all performance and presentation spaces while providing oversight for contracting all performing arts events to be presented on campus.The Director has oversight of the preparation and implementation of operating plans, long-range plans, and budgets related to the Office of Events. Working with the President's Office and the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, the Director reviews, evaluates, and develops policies and procedures for events, the operation of the department, and strategies for rental of College facilities. The Director determines potential markets for rental of campus facilities; develops marketing and communication plans and goals related to utilization of these facilities, and has responsibility for negotiations and contract approval.
Summary of Essential Functions - Establish guidelines and protocol standards for events that are consistent with the mission, vision, values, tenets, and goals of the College and the desired institutional image while satisfying rapidly changing demographics to ensure the expectation of quality of events at MICA.
- Provide leadership to the Office of Events.
- Provide expert consultation and support to the President's Office, Operations, faculty, staff, administrators, offices, departments and students responsible for producing a wide variety of special programs and institutional-, internal-, and community-wide events.
- Manage on-site events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:- Lead Events Office; develop short-and-long term goals; develop and manage annual budget; provide final oversight for contracts, invoices and billing; develop all office reporting.
- Supervise and train staff: develop goals, direct duties and assignments, and oversee event planning, production and management.
- Formulate policies, guidelines and procedures for events: Falvey Hall, BBOX, facilities use, contracts, external use fee structures, liabilities, ADA requirements and others as needed.
- With Events staff: develop, design, produce, and manage complex, high-visibility and marquee events that are consistent with the mission and vision of the College.
- Serve as liaison and provide support for campus catering, catered events, and related contracts.
- Provide accountability for space reservation systems and events calendar.
- Provide onsite event management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of: planning and executing successful large-and-small scale events; College policies and procedures, annual events and programming; and federal, state, and local regulations concerning tort issues, copyright, censorship, contracts, and ADA requirements.
- Skills: Highly organized and very detail oriented. Exceptional supervisory skills with effective management, organizational and leadership skills; proven ability to recognize problems, identify and implement solutions, evaluate results, and take appropriate corrective actions. Flexible to change, professional, proactive, persuasive, collaborative, results oriented and ability to negotiate.
- Abilities: Exercise independent judgment. Work well under pressure, meet multiple deadlines. Work well with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and reflect the College in a positive manner. Creativity needed to keep events fresh and entertaining, yet remaining cognizant of costs associated with events.
Minimum qualifications:- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related subject
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in: event design and management; and community relations.
- Minimum of three years of management and staff supervision.
Preferred Qualifications: - Appreciation for the creative process while working with visual artists.
- Experience in partnership and contract negotiations.
