Position Overview:

The Director-Fairgrounds, Facilities and Marketing is a dynamic role for overseeing the operations, marketing and development of the London-Laurel County Fairgrounds at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park. Additionally, this role works to promote other revenue-generating properties managed by the commission. This position plays a key role in strategic planning and implementing marketing initiatives for the fairgrounds and other tourism and parks facilities. It works closely with the Director, staff and commission to enhance community engagement, attract visitors, recruit new events, and ensure the smooth operation of fairgrounds facilities under the management of the London Tourism and Parks. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Fairgrounds Management-Oversee the day to day operations, maintenance, and event coordination at the London-Laurel County Regional Fairgrounds. Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations. Work with Park staff to make the facility be at its best at all times. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders for facility improvements, repairs, and operational needs.
  • Marketing and Promotion-Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the fairgrounds as a premier event destination. Assist in creating and executing marketing campaigns for other tourism and parks projects and facilities managed by the commission. Manage the fairgrounds' online presence, including website updates and social media platforms. Establish partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and media outlets to enhance visibility and engagement. Assist the director and team in marketing and promotion of London. This may include attending travel, and trade shows, working events and any other work to promote the community.
  • Event Coordination and Support-Assist in planning, organizing, and executing events at the fairgrounds and other tourism properties. Provide support to event organizers to ensure successful execution of events. Monitor post-event feedback and identify areas for improvement.
  • Administrative Duties-Prepare reports, proposals and budgets related to fairgrounds operations and marketing activities. Assist the Executive Director with strategic planning, policy development, and operational improvements. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Parks and Recreation, or a related field.
  • 3+ Years of experience in facility management, event coordination, marketing or other work related to tourism, recreation, or travel.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Expertise in leading a team is helpful.
  • Proficiency in marketing tools, social media management, and graphic design software is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by events or projects. Occasional overnight travel will be required.

Work Environment:

This position involves both office-based administrative work and on-site facility management tasks. Physical demands may include standing for long periods of time, lifting materials, and working in outdoor environments during events or inspections.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, vacation/holiday pay, Kentucky State Retirement.
