  • Manages all aspects of staffing for Recreational Services and directly supervises the Assistant Director of Recreational Services for Operations, Assistant Director of Recreational Services for Programming, and West Center facility supervisors (paraprofessional staff).
  • Establishes and implements strategic goals and objectives that support student engagement, recreational service and community engagement.
  • Works with departmental and campus partners in developing marketing strategies and creating an online/digital presence.
  • Ensures staff use best practices for the development and delivery of programs and services.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for West Center staff and oversees training and development for student employees.
Space and Facility Management
  • Serves as Space Use Manager for the West Center and recreational fields.
  • Oversees office space, weight room, gyms, activity rooms, racquetball courts, track, cardio equipment, commuter lounge and all other facets of facility and equipment management.
  • Indirectly oversees the conference room, pool, and climbing wall.
  • Responsible for creating, revising and implementing policies and procedures for the West Center, including membership sales and services, patron access, risk management, security (keys and card access), program registration, cash-handling procedures and use of all facilities and spaces.
  • Coordinates with Facilities Management regarding special events, custodial needs and facility maintenance issues.
  • Inspects the facility regularly and initiates work orders and schedules special maintenance needs.
Budget Management
  • Develops and implements the budget for Recreational Services and West Center Operations, including all student staffing, maintenance contracts and day-to-day operational costs.
  • Develops and coordinates capital improvement projects and permanent equipment purchases, installations and repairs.
  • Maintains equipment depreciation and replacement schedules.
  • Serves as a lead liaison for campus and community partners in establishing revenue-generating opportunities.
Collaboration and Outreach
  • Works with other campus departments to maximize the value of the West Center to the campus and larger Rock Hill community.
  • Creates mutually beneficial relationships with community partners, leads outreach efforts for Recreational Services and maintains strong partnerships with University Events.
  • Provides support for large-scale programming and student engagement initiatives that promote leadership development, career preparation and retention.
Outcomes Assessment
  • Directs operations and provides strategic leadership and senior management in the design, planning, development, implementation, coordination and continuous improvement of programs and services.
  • Creates learning outcomes for key programs and services.
  • Coordinates data collection for Recreational Services/Student Engagement and supports the continuous improvement process for the department.
Departmental Leadership and University Participation
  • Serves and represent the division of Student Affairs and the university on various committees and initiatives.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Master's degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Health and Physical Education, Student Affairs or related field.
  • At least five years' experience in facility management and member service operations in a collegiate environment, including budget oversight.
  • Experience training, supervising and developing staff.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in facility management.
  • Working knowledge of risk management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to analyze data and prepare reports for distribution.
  • Exceptional organizational and presentation skills.
  • Sufficient technical skills to perform job duties at a high level.
  • Ability to develop and manage a budget.
  • Ability to successfully supervise, mentor and evaluate staff.
  • Proven ability to articulate and execute a vision that includes learning experiences for an academic and wellness facility.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and tactfully resolve difficult situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications Experience working in collegiate recreational services. Additional Comments Travel/Overtime Requirements: Occasional after-hours and weekend work.Annual Salary/Hiring Range: $74,274-$80,000; actual salary depends on qualifications.
