Business Description
The Structural Heart Business Unit is part of the Medical Device Segment of Abbott. It focuses on the development of products and solutions to treat Structural Heart Disease (TAVI, TMTI, SI and CS). Revenue is over $2B and growing double digits. More than 5,000 people work for the Structural Heart Business Unit. R&D & Innovation - organic and acquired - is a core pillar of the Structural Heart Business unit.
Reporting Line, Traveling Requirement and Location
- The position reports into the Divisional Vice President of Structural Heart Global Marketing,
- The position is in Santa Clara, California,
- The position requires moderate traveling (up to 20% of time)
Main Purpose
Lead the strategic process of the Structural Heart Business Unit including Strategy, BD, and the Annual Business Objective process. This role involves working closely with senior leadership to identify growth opportunities, optimize business processes, and ensure the Abbott remains competitive in the market.
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategy
- Lead strategy and the strategic process for the Business Unit,
- Lead the Product Portfolio Process,
- Maintain and update the long-term Market Models for the Structural Heart Business Unit,
- Gather, maintain, and disseminate competitive intelligence information as needed (this includes Analyst Estimates, Intel from the field, Intel for IP screening, etc.….)
Business Development
- Assess BD priorities with the Marketing Directors of the different Structural Heart Franchises
- Define the strategic needs for potential acquisitions / partnership,
- Source potential targets / partnerships,
- Select targets and partnership to investigate,
- Coordinate with Abbott Corporate License and Acquisition particularly during the due diligence and the deal preparation process.
Alignment and Management of Annual Business Objectives across functions
- Coordinate and lead the Annual Business Objectives Process:
- Define the Business unit objectives.
- Align the organization on the most important goals for the year,
- Manage the operating mechanism to review the goals during the year.
Communication
- Prepare executive presentations for the Board of Director Reviews and for other important senior leadership meetings.
Cross Franchises Project Management / Pilot Project Management
- Pilot New initiatives or process improvements in collaboration with Franchise Directors / Abbot Medical Devices,
- Manage some of the cross franchises' projects.
Team Management
- Manage the Strategy and BD team (4 people)
- Manage the Budget of the department.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum bachelor's degree in science or business
- Preferred master's degree in science or business
Experiences
- 10+ years of professional experience,
- Ideally in Medical Device and Structural Heart (Marketing / RnD / Field),
- Consulting experience would be a plus,
- Team Management would be a plus.

The base pay for this position is $186,300.00 – $372,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
