    HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

    The director is responsible and accountable for supporting the hospital laboratory in achieving AAH and ACL goals and objectives including planning, monitoring, and implementing laboratory operations in a cost effective, quality and service-oriented manner.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans, directs, and oversees the operation and delivery of services and technical processes within the laboratory. Organizes, plans and implements process improvement activities.
    • Develops, implements, and actively monitors a comprehensive, effective laboratory quality program. Ensures the timely and efficient delivery of quality laboratory results.
    • Collaborates with the Laboratory Information Services Department to ensure efficient and appropriate utilization of laboratory information systems.
    • Ensures excellent customer service through collaboration and effective communication with other laboratory, hospital, clinic, and healthcare system administration, physicians, and staff. Responds to physician, clinic administration, patient complaints, and customer service issues on a timely and effective basis.
    • Develops, recommends and monitors capital and operating budgets. Monitors productivity and ensures productivity targets are met.
    • Assures compliance with all policies, procedures, and standardizing protocols as well as with regulatory, licensing and accreditation agencies related to laboratory services.
    • Assumes overall responsibility for the environment of care.
    • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
    • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
    • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.

    WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

    • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • Medical Technologist (MT) certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification
    • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Health Care Administration or equivalent
    • Typically requires 7 years of experience in a hospital or laboratory setting. Includes 3 years of management experience in management of staff, budgets and multiple laboratory functions.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Proven ability to assure compliance with regulatory, accrediting and licensing agency requirements.
    • Current knowledge of medical and technical advancements to plan for future growth and development.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and staff.
    • Strong organizational, decision making and critical thinking skills.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) or similar products and laboratory information systems.
    • Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
