Qualifications:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Recreation or Sports Management, or a closely related field, or demonstrated proficiency through previous work experience.
Certification: The Assistant Activities and Park Director must have a valid Missouri teacher certificate. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Successful candidate will complete a Certified Playground Inspector Certification within the first 12 months. Such alternatives to the above certification and education level as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Experience desired: Minimum of 5 years experience in coaching and/or recreation administration.
Job Requirements:
The Assistant Activities and Park Director works in collaboration with the district Athletic/Activities Director to manage and promote youth programs, manage district athletics and activities as well as oversee the district park. Responsibilities include marketing activities, overseeing registrations, recruiting and training volunteer coaches, managing facilities, scheduling games and practices, supervising events, managing and directing events and all items relating to the district park, and maintaining equipment. The role involves strong communication with families and collaboration with school administrators, while also ensuring safety and compliance with district policies. The director also manages the District Wellness Center, prepares budget reports, engages with the community and participates in professional development opportunities.
Other Requirements: The ability to lift fifty (50) pounds is an essential job requirement. Capable of physical exertion to manually lift, push, pull, bend and carry heavy objects and materials. Ability to successfully complete all aspects of the position in varying work conditions, both indoors and outdoors. The successful candidate will experience various working conditions including potential exposure to sun, wind, cold, rain and uneven terrain. This role requires the ability to adapt to varying schedules and occasional changes in work hours. This could include starting later in the morning and working later into the evening, as well as occasionally adjusting hours to accommodate project deadlines or business needs. Candidates should be comfortable with this level of flexibility and be able to effectively manage their time to ensure tasks are completed within designated timelines. Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
