Description Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Students, the Director will be responsible for developing a strategic vision for the LGBTQA+ Center on both the NYC and Pleasantville campuses while managing the programs and services for the Center in support of the University's academic mission and the strategic priorities. They will assist in the development of related campus policies and administrative initiatives and will lead the development and execution of the Center's programs, events, student leadership opportunities, educational workshops, and advocacy initiatives. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with various campus and community-based constituencies to identify opportunities to strengthen a student's sense of belonging on campus. - Oversee campus policies and administrative initiatives along with the development, and execution of the LGBTQA+ Center's leadership, services, daily operations, student leadership programs, events, education, identity support, training, policy development, and campus-wide collaborations.
- Manage the general functioning and oversight of the LGBTQA+ Centers on both the NYC and Pleasantville campuses, which will require having a consistent presence on both campuses each week.
- Supervise a part-time graduate intern and several undergraduate student staff on each campus.
- Frequently work with the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Sexual & Interpersonal Wellness, Student Engagement, Residential Life, University Housing Operations, the Counseling Center, and other departments to develop programs and initiatives to support the needs of students.
- Facilitate trainings and provide consultations for campus partners seeking to increase awareness of LGBTQA+ student experiences and LGBTQA+ student access to programs and services.
- Work closely with LGBTQA+ student organizations on campus and serve in an advising role as necessary.
- Assess, investigate, and work to implement needed adjustments to university-wide policies and procedures related to the LGBTQA+ campus community.
- Manage departmental budget.
- Recruitment, selection, training and supervision of office employees, interns and volunteers.
- Oversight of departmental social media and marketing.
- Completion of requisite departmental reports.
- Represent the Center at various campus events including, but not limited to, Orientation and Admissions events and support efforts to attract prospective students to Pace University.
- Make recommendations and referrals for intervention and assistance; serve as a resource for staff and students on issues relating to student challenges, retention, and success.
- Assist and advocate for students with name and gender changes with the University.
- Attend meetings, serve on committees, and collaborate with staff and faculty to address and meet the needs of the LGBTQA+ population.
- Lead efforts to provide dynamic learning activities, programs, and dialogues that engage diverse perspectives and foster shared understanding, in collaboration with students, student organizations, and campus and community stakeholders.
- Serve as a primary point of contact, resource, and support for students experiencing issues related to sexual and gender identity; provide direct support and connections with campus and community resources.
- Work creatively with others to anticipate and provide constructive responses to challenging student and community issues.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, this position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are individuals at the University who, because of their function at the University, have an obligation under the Clery Act to notify the University of alleged Clery Crimes that are reported to them in good faith, or alleged Clery Crimes that they may personally witness. CSAs will be required to complete training with respect to the Clery Act and the responsibilities of a CSA. Work Hours Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with additional hours as needed. Ability to travel to and work in person on both the NYC and Pleasantville campuses each week. Requirements
- Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Social Justice Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education is preferred. Prior Student Affairs experience preferred.
- At least 5 years experience working with LGBTQA+ students/student organizations, in a higher education environment or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
- Knowledge of social justice issues and best practices, programming, student activism, and diversity issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of LGBTQA+ services along with relevant issues and needs of college students.
- Experience or competency with discussion groups, workshop facilitation, and student advisement.
- Experience in event planning and implementation from start to completion.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, develop new initiatives, and interact effectively in an advisory capacity with diverse students.
- Experience managing budgets preferred.
