The Director of Makeup Artistry is responsible for amplifying, preserving and evolving the makeup artistry equity of the MAC brand across all internal and consumer-facing touchpoints and experiences. They lead the global strategic vision of the MAC Artistry department which drives MAC's strategic priorities, marketing, and commercial objectives. They collaborate with, influence, support and activate the global MAC Artistry network in partnership with regions and markets to integrate makeup artistry point of view into multi-faceted workstreams with Creative, Product Development, Online, Commercial as well as Product and Consumer Marketing. They collaborate with the Education team to optimize MAC's artistry curriculum, train, and develop our global network of Senior and National Artists and are a key stakeholder in driving the MAC Creator program. The position partners closely with the Fashion Collections team and Executive Director, Trend to sustain and evolve the position of the MAC brand as the leader in Fashion, Artistry and Trend. The position requires an exceptional understanding of makeup artistry, beauty trends, social media, and the demonstrated ability to self-manage and multi-task with agility to support ongoing and new business priorities. As a MAC brand ambassador, they must have strong leadership skills, internal and external customer service skills, media training, on-camera presence, storytelling and presentation skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Define and lead the execution of the global Makeup Artistry strategy
- Provide global Artistry strategy and ensure it is tailored to regions/markets for Makeup Artistry development and evolution.
- Define the global Makeup Artistry strategy in collaboration with the VP Education & Artistry and DOMAs/DOSAs ensuring it supports the global business priorities and brand strategy with an utmost relevance to the regions realities and priorities.
- Develop and execute visual conceptualization for launches in collaboration with the Consumer Marketing and Creative teams including the regional inputs for greater consumer relevance.
- Collaborate with the Regional VP/GM & Regional Directors of Senior Artists on establishing goals/ objectives and overall regional Artistry priorities for all Regions.
- Partner with cross functional and regional teams to oversee and execute all programs and initiatives driven with an Artistry point of view.
- Collaborate with the Regional teams, Brand Managers, Retail Operations, Marketing, Artist Relations and PR team leaders to ensure the Makeup Artistry strategy for the Region is cascaded and communicated to the Artistry team members.
- Identify and roll out best practices that support the Artistry business needs and strategic priorities.
- Identify and execute solutions to Artistry regional challenges with regional DOMAs/DOSAs to articulate how Artistry will contribute to achieving results.
- Collaborate with Regional cross functions to ensure Senior Artists & National Artists are being utilized most effectively for training support, press & influencers, social media, and special events to support the MAC Brand.
- Strong partner to ensure the strengthening collaboration between Sales, Education and Makeup Artistry to create greater synergy to support Brand and Regional objectives and priorities.
- Oversees the selection of the Artistry team for Global events and participates, as needed, in these events.
Support Consumer Engagement, Social, Creative and Education initiatives through the development of Senior & National Artists content creation enabling them to leverage Artistry and MAC products whilst engaging the MAC consumer through personal, regional and global online platforms (e.g., Instagram, Face Book, YouTube, MAC Online etc.)
- Oversee the independent creation of content pertaining to seasonal Marketing initiatives, MAC Pro, Trends, Fashion Week/Events, Tips and Tricks/How- To videos, Hero products and ensuring the content is locally relevant for all personal social media platforms.
- Identify key themes and ideas on digital delivery opportunities in line with the Regions specificities and cultural awareness.
- Liaise with Global/Regional Consumer Marketing departments to ensure timely scheduling of content is created for the official Brand platforms.
- Deliver feedback, share best practices and guidance to Senior Artists and National Artists to help better leverage their support across social media channels trainings enabling MAC Artists to create quality social media content, develop a social media persona and develop relationships with the community including actual and potential customers.
- Partner closely with the Global Creative team to ensure creative and executional excellence with artistry and imagery.
- Develop and design innovative and modern Artistry storytelling workshops with an emphasis on iconic techniques and philosophies of the MAC brand to support core categories and launch activities.
- Provide insight and feedback to the Executive Director, Trend to help curate and develop the global MAC Trend narrative and calendar including product recommendations, product usage and artistry technique.
- Act as a Global stakeholder for the MAC Creator Program; providing insight, feedback, and content to optimize our Creator briefs, education and tactical tools and the annual Global MAC Creator Summit.
Oversee Ideation and Creation of Artistry Educational Initiatives and Curriculum
- Identify the Artistry training needs of the Senior Artists through communication with DOMAs/DOSAs, Senior/National Artists and Sales leadership.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to expand knowledge of our global customers and share information/best practices to assist with anticipating Artistry training needs and creating regionally relevant Artistry initiatives.
- Collaborate with Global Education and Makeup Artistry teams on brainstorming, conceptualizing, and creating high touch Artistry training solutions: content, workshops, and certifications to develop and optimize Retail Employees Artistry skills through in-person, virtual and digital platforms.
- Develop and oversee relevant Artistry programs globally.
Team Support & Development
- Oversees the development and mentoring of DOMAs, DOSAs, Senior Artists/National Artists.
- Conceptualize and execute yearly training experiences/meetings to ensure the development of the global Makeup Artistry team in collaboration with Regional Artistry leaders.
- Oversees the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring the best DOSAs, DOMAs, Senior Artists and National Artists to maintain the MAC standards of service, and Makeup Artistry leadership.
- Oversees the development of calendars for DOMAs, DOSAs, Senior Artists and National Artists that align with business objectives when needed.
- Contribute to the PDP process including the Establish phase, mid-year and annual performance reviews of DOMAs, DOSAs.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback on a regular basis to DOMAs & DOSAs on their job performance including their annual PDP performance alongside VP/GMs.
- Assess and recommend appropriate talent for Fashion Shows and Media Events to Makeup Artistry and Global Communications departments.
Fashion Collections
- Support global Fashion Week related strategies across multiple cities.
- Partner with internal teams (Marketing, Creative, Franchise, Legal, Finance, Press, Media etc.) to build multi-channel opportunities that are on-trend right, align with key corporate initiatives and maximize impact and elevate the overall brand equity.
- Collaborate with other departments where appropriate in the development and acquisition of fashion week assets including Photography, Social Media Model Casting, Trend Book, Trend Video & Face Charts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 8+ years of relevant international Makeup Artistry experience.
- Strong leadership skills and people management experience on a local, regional, and international level.
- Demonstrated success in building high-performing teams from the ground up and developing local, regional, and global infrastructures to boost creative excellence and drive business outcomes both internally and externally.
- Ability to integrate functions to maximize impact and ensure brand consistency while ensuring local relevance and engagement.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and relationship-building skills both across varying levels and function, both internally and externally.
- Proven brand, artistry, and product training expertise.
- Excellent strategy development and project management skills, ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet competing deadlines; maintain creative and active problem solving to drive on time and quality delivery for all projects and partner with various levels in the organization.
- Thrives in an environment that is fast paced, rapidly changing and able to handle multiple priorities while meeting objectives, work well under pressure.
- Sharp eye for translating market trends into opportunities that inform product strategy and drive brand engagement.
- Proficient in Digital Education, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, estimated at least 25% or more.
- Proficiency in more than 1 language is a plus. English speaking mandatory.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,550 to $208,200. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results as well as participation in the share incentive plan.
