What the Role Offers - Director of Materials Management
The Director of Materials Management is responsible for planning and procuring materials, managing inventory, and optimizing supply chains. This role will ensure that materials are available to meet Research & Development (R&D), Manufacturing and Facilities needs and contractual commitments while achieving favorable costs and improving inventory performance. This role will be responsible for the management of the Materials and Warehouse teams.
What You Need to Succeed
- Lead and manage the company's materials and warehouse operations including sourcing, inventory strategies, and policy to optimize inventory levels for raw materials and laboratory supplies while ensuring integrity of products, chain-of-condition and custody validation.
- Develop and implement annual strategic materials and warehouse operations plan for senior management review and confirmation.
- Manage all procurement, inventory, and purchase orders through NetSuite.
- Prepare bid specification and evaluation process, including capital purchase approvals.
- Negotiate with approved vendors, ensuring value, quality and speed in procurement operations.
- Design all import/export requirements for global procurement.
- Develop and maintain success metrics, generating a cycle of continuous improvement for best practices, and proactively communicating improvements.
- Lead and execute project management and final commissioning of process equipment for quality validation.
- Lead monthly materials board review meetings with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of materials to support company goals and objectives.
- Hire and develop materials and warehouse staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in a related field.
- 12+ years of professional experience, with 8+ years as a senior manager leading a materials or purchasing department at a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical company.
- Experience deploying and maintaining enterprise resource planning software purchasing, i.e. NetSuite, a must.
- Experience leading materials or purchasing programs for a vaccine manufacturer strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of materials best practices in the life sciences industry from procurement to final disposition.
- Established people leader with experience building, developing and scaling high-performing materials and warehouse teams.
- Experience with financial reporting and creating budgets.
- Experience with maintaining cGMP compliance in partnership with the Quality and Regulatory organizations.
- Experience with analyzing distribution operations and workflows.
- Deep relationships with industry vendors and suppliers for vaccine manufacturing, including, equipment, raw materials, contractors, and co-packers.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel 50% or more both domestically and internationally.
- Frequently use of office equipment that requires manual dexterity to operate (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).
- Occasional carrying, handling, and reaching for objects up to 30 pounds.
- Frequently sit or stand for long periods of time.
Mental Demands:
- Requires operational discipline to consistently focus and execute work-related tasks, with a minimum of human error and supervision. This involves self-checking of work immediately upon completion, and the ability to find / correct errors.
- Ability to elevate potential concerns/discrepancies to executive management in a timely fashion.
- Ability to manage time effectively to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to use problem-solving techniques to ensure project goals are met.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written are necessary to communicate within different departments and with external clients, maintaining a professional demeanor.
Working Conditions:
- Onsite position in Redmond or Woodinville, WA unless otherwise specified. Remote work required if travel is necessary.
- Primarily this position involves working in an office environment.
- Relocation assistance available.
Estimated Base Salary: $210,000 - $235,000 / yearly DOE
