This dynamic role is pivotal in driving the University's growth through comprehensive and strategic annual giving and donor relations programs. General Summary: The Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations is responsible for the strategic execution and management of a data-driven, donor-focused, and growth-oriented annual giving program targeting gifts below $10,000. Additionally, this role oversees the donor relations program for gifts of all sizes. The Director develops content and coordinates production for various solicitation and stewardship communications, including direct mail, email, phone, text, crowdfunding, and events (such as Giving Day). The aim is to encourage giving, deepen commitment, and loyalty among constituents, and grow the University's donor base. This role also supervises the Advancement Program Manager.

Essential Job duties include

Annual Giving Strategy and Implementation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual giving plan with data segmentation of core constituency groups.
  • Align segmentations and projects with appropriate messaging channels including direct mail, email, phone, text, and social media.
  • Ensure plans complement communications from University Communications and Alumni and Family Relations.
  • Interface with outside vendors and contractors to achieve program results.
  • Stay informed on current trends in annual giving, marketing, communications, industry best practices, and technology changes.

Annual Giving Messaging and Content Management

  • Engage with University Advancement staff, senior leadership, departments, schools, volunteer leaders, and students to develop stories and information.
  • Craft compelling and timely communications tailored for segments and messaging channels.
  • Ensure all materials adhere to calendars, deadlines, budget requirements, SPU policies, and brand guidelines.
  • Maintain current annual giving files.

Giving Day

  • Provide strategy, leadership, vision, and supervision for Giving Day, SPU's 24-hour campaign.

Campus Fundraising

  • Lead and facilitate fundraising for departments, schools, colleges, and teams.
  • Meet with SPU staff and students to assess needs, provide strategic advice, and execute fundraising projects.

Donor Relations and Stewardship

  • Oversee development of donor relations/stewardship programs to inspire consistent engagement and involvement.

Reporting and Metrics

  • Develop annual giving goals, metrics, and key performance indicators in partnership with senior staff.
  • Assess and analyze program performance for future planning.
  • Recommend constituent upgrades for major gift potential.
  • Collaborate with Alumni and Family Relations to measure engagement and loyalty.

Donor Recognition Programs

  • Build strategy to encourage leadership giving and loyalty giving.
  • Respond to inquiries about giving opportunities.

Management

  • Supervise and assist the Annual Giving and Stewardship Manager.
  • Hire and train staff, evaluate performance, and collaborate with subcontractors and student workers.

Department Expectations

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of University programs and funding priorities.
  • Participate in advisory boards, councils, and campus events.
  • Ensure regular attendance and contribute to a positive team environment.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in annual giving programs with direct experience in implementing direct mail, email, and phone solicitation programs.
  • Extensive experience with constituent databases (preferably Raiser's Edge) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising principles and demonstrated success in fundraising.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a data-driven environment and manage others.
  • An active and maturing Christian faith, knowledge of and willingness to actively support the Christian mission of the University and accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian community.
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours during special events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or applicable certification.
  • Familiarity with e-philanthropy, print and mail house processes, CRM solutions/development software, and one or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge, NetCommunity, Tableau, ThankView, Graduway, MailChimp.
Additional Information:

Position will remain open until filled.

Salary: $78,000 - $80,000

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes generous contributions to an employee HSA account and a 7% contribution to a retirement account, for eligible employees, with immediate vesting in the plan. Tuition discount program (50% - 90%) available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
