Proper Hospitality is seeking a passionate Director of Banquets to join the team at Montauk Yacht Club, our 107-room luxury property with The Collective.

Spanning 35 acres on Montauk's Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities.

The Director of Banquets is responsible for the seamless execution of all banquet events, including weddings, corporate functions, social gatherings and bespoke experiences. This role ensures world-class service, operational efficiency and revenue optimization while maintaining Montauk Yacht Club's high standards of luxury and hospitality. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with a passion for service excellence, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to create exceptional guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Service Excellence

  • Oversee the planning, coordination and execution of all banquet events, ensuring flawless service and guest satisfaction
  • Collaborate with Sales, Catering, and Culinary teams to curate bespoke event experiences tailored to guest preferences
  • Lead pre-event briefings and post-event evaluations, ensuring continuous improvement
  • Maintain exceptional service standards, training and coaching the team to uphold the highest levels of hospitality
  • Manage banquet setup, breakdown and execution with a focus on efficiency, elegance and adherence to brand standards
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene regulations

Financial & Revenue Management

  • Develop and manage the banquet department's budget, controlling costs while maximizing profitability
  • Work closely with the Sales & Catering team to optimize banquet revenue, including upselling opportunities and dynamic pricing strategies
  • Analyze banquet financial reports, labor costs, and P&L statements to drive operational efficiency
  • Monitor and maintain inventory control of banquet equipment, linens and supplies

Leadership & Team Development

  • Create a positive, engaging work environment that motivates and empowers team members
  • Implement training programs to enhance service skills, product knowledge and leadership development
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching

Guest & Client Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for VIP guests, event planners and high-profile clients
  • Anticipate and address guest needs, ensuring personalized and memorable experiences
  • Handle guest feedback and resolve any service issues with professionalism and urgency

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of banquet leadership experience in a luxury hotel, fine dining, or high-end event venue
  • Strong knowledge of food & beverage operations, event planning and luxury service standards
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to oversee multiple events simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership abilities
  • Proficiency in banquet software, POS systems and financial reporting tools
  • Knowledge of wine, spirits and fine dining etiquette is preferred
  • A passion for hospitality, creativity and delivering extraordinary guest experiences
