A prestigious global Am Law firm is seeking a Director of Billing and Collections to oversee billing, collections, trust practices, and financial data operations. This highly visible role involves collaborating with partners, internal stakeholders, and clients to address financial matters while streamlining processes and supporting client relations. The position will be hybrid in Mountain View, Santa Monica, San Francisco, or NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee client/matter financial setup, billing, collections (accounts receivable management), trust, and cash application functions.
- Continuously evaluate and refine billing, collections, trust, and cash application processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage and mentor Client Accounting managers and supervisors, fostering professional development, providing feedback, and promoting a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Collaborate with partners, practice group leaders, and firm leadership on practice-specific billing and collection initiatives.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and deliver ad-hoc reports using internal reporting tools; partner with Financial Systems to design new reports that enhance the billing and collections process.
- Implement strategies to minimize overdue accounts, maximize cash flow, and maintain positive client relationships.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end close processes and distribution of reports.
- Document billing, collection, trust, and cash application policies and procedures.
- Provide training and orientation for new lateral partners, billing attorneys, secretaries, and relevant staff.
- Resolve billing and collection issues collaboratively with attorneys, staff, and external clients to ensure client satisfaction.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of billing and collections experience in a law firm setting.
- Experience managing large teams and working with legal-specific billing software.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong understanding of legal billing practices, client agreements, and billing software.
- Proven leadership abilities to build trust, foster collaboration, and develop teams.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills for managing and presenting complex information.
