Catering Director - Hyde Park Golf & Country Club

Core Expectations: The Director of Catering Promotes the club's dining facilities for private banquets, business and social meetings and other member-related activities & events. The Director of Catering should actively pursue new and recurring private event business while developing contracts for and overseeing all administrative and operational aspects of preparing and serving club events. The Director of Catering should ensure that the guests' expectations are exceeded during banquets as well as standard club operating hours by assisting and approving the set up and execution of all BEO's.

This position offers a competitive base salary plus event sales commission; total annual compensation will vary based upon your sales performance.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • Four-year college or university degree in Marketings, Sales, Business or Hospitality Management preferred.
  • Three or more years recent progressive experience in food and beverage sales and/or management.
  • Must maintain a professional & welcoming attitude and utilize a passionate desire to provide exceptional service.
  • Display excellent oral and written communication skills and utilize during all member, guest, and in-house communication.
  • Possess strong leadership and management skills. Must be able to manage, coach, and appropriately develop direct and indirect reports. Ability to recruit, train, and evaluate staff in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and helpful attitude while leading the effort to resolve any complaints or concerns.
  • Capacity to maintain a department operating budget and take quick corrective actions as necessary to assure budget goals are achieved.
  • Working knowledge of country club and/or restaurant POS systems; preference for ClubEssentials experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Promote, advertise, and market the club's social event facilities and capabilities to all members.
  • Help member clients arrange banquets, luncheons, meetings, weddings, dances, and other social events; obtain all pertinent information needed for guest planning.
  • Provide guest tours and tailor suggestive selling efforts of club facilities for all potential private events in an effort to secure event sales & business.
  • Direct private event work, in conjunction with all FOH managers. Serve as liaison between kitchen, service, and management staff.
  • Work with the executive chef and food and beverage management team to determine selling prices, menus, and other details for catered events; oversee the development of contracts for private events; assure pre-planned banquet menu offerings are current and reflect general member interests for club-sponsored and private events.
  • Transmit necessary information to and oversee all event planning with production, serving and housekeeping staff; arrange for printing of menus, procuring of decorations, entertainment, and other special requests, etc.
  • Diagram room layout, banquet item placement and related function details.
  • Maintain club's master calendar and function book (for both immediate needs and YOY information). Update weekly function information for all involved service staff & managers prior to event executions.
  • Inspect finished arrangements and must be present to oversee the actual greeting and serving of guests.
  • Resolve client complaints in a timely manner.
  • Manage banquet billing and client correspondence through a proven written process. Utilize the club electronic venues for billing events. Review payments to ensure financial accuracy of the catering department.
  • Help develop club-sponsored event budgets; review financial reports and takes corrective actions as appropriate to help assure that budget goals are met.
  • Represent membership needs and interests on applicable club committees, such as Activities and House Committees. Will serve as Co-Chair of the Activities Committee and lead the Activities Committee meetings.
  • Develop ideas for club events, organize details for holiday events, and work to promote year-round member use of various club outlets through creativity and enthusiastic outcomes.

Physical/Verbal Requirements:

  • Capable of working various hours, typically a Tuesday - Saturday schedule and holidays as necessary.
  • Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
  • Position sometimes involves kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
