Job DetailsJob Location Administrative Building - Bronx, NY DescriptionPosition TitleDirector of Curriculum & InstructionProgram Haven Charter High School Temporary Site/Location East Side House Settlement: 337 Alexander Avenue Bronx, NY 10454 FLSA-Classification Full-time-Exempt Salary Commensurate with experience Salary: $115,000 Reports To Principal of Haven Charter HS Date September 1, 2024 JOB DESCRIPTIONSummary/ Objective Reporting to the Principal, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) of Haven Charter High School (HCHS) will serve as a critical support and thought partner to the Principal, Leadership team and Executive Director. The DCI provides vision in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review and evaluation of the curriculum and instruction and ensures HCHS's education objectives are aligned to state standards, maintains instructional excellence and provides direct supervision of all instructional teachers, including evaluation and coaching as teachers work to develop skills. The DCI is an experienced educational leader who demonstrates a drive toward excellence and is passionate about serving all students. The DCI will have a deep Common Core State Standards (CCSS) aligned content knowledge in 9-12 math and ELA, and experience developing curriculum. The DCI will be an equity-oriented leader committed to social justice, culturally responsive education, and social-emotional learning. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Instructional Leadership
  • Lead a team of 7-9 staff with a diverse range of instructional expertise and experience to ensure that the school receives outstanding curricular support across grades 9-12 in all subject areas;
  • Set and implement the vision for curriculum internalization and implementation, intellectual preparation and data driven planning;
  • Manage curriculum in all content areas throughout the year to ensure aligned systems, execution, and clear communication amongst teammates and to our schools while rolling out initiatives;
  • Manage a rigorous portfolio that includes leading teacher meetings, contributing to strategic planning process as it relates to curricular-instructional decisions for the entire school, robust data analysis and data-driven decision-making, and direct teachers;
  • Bridge the gap between content areas (e.g. Math and Literacy) for templates, tools, and structures;
  • Supervise, evaluate and provide direct coaching to teachers through observation and feedback, modeling, and sharing of resources and provide input to Principal for decisions regarding placement, promotion and retention;
  • Lead the creation of the annual academic planning calendar and programmatic PD scope and sequence;
  • Evaluate materials for alignment to culturally responsive pedagogy/teaching practices Professional development;
  • Conduct performance evaluations of teammates and set and monitor progress toward growth goals aligned to the school's strategic priorities and benchmarks Data-driven decision-making;
  • Establish meaningful check-points/aligned opportunities for teachers to gather and respond to data or feedback on the support they provide to school-based stakeholders;
  • Build and hold people accountable to systems that increase organizational efficiency and promote scalability and alignment;
  • Move the team toward quality assurance and alignment of resources;
  • Unify the messaging and tools used to ensure that they align to organizational vision for instruction;
Administrative Leadership
  • Create processes and gather information that address immediate needs of organization or team and anticipate the future-facing needs Cross-functional collaboration;
  • Work closely with Principal and Managing Directors to foster proactive communication about decisions that impact multiple internal constituents or teams;
  • Support the teachers in creating and facilitating both teacher and school leader-facing professional development during the teacher pre-service, in-service days and during leader PD days;
  • Support the lesson planning process and provide weekly feedback to teachers on their lessons;
  • Identify gaps in academic performance and recommend and implement solutions in a timely manner;
  • Build smooth and efficient working relations that positively impact academics; work closely and efficiently with the school principal, the school leadership team, and staff to ensure student success;
  • Reinforce positive student behavior and establish rapport with students; communicate individual academic progress;
  • Leverage, coordinate and prepare the school to implement robust and effective program of interventions and supports for at-risk students, including students with special educational needs and those learning English as a second language.
  • Work with school staff to develop, implement, and evaluate parent and community engagement and community outreach activities.
  • Serve as resource to school leadership as it pertains to meeting the school's educational goals and assist in the coordination of school- wide activities and services with other agencies and organizations.
  • Develop strong and productive relationship with school leadership, teachers, support team and partners
  • Collaborate with colleagues (leadership and school-wide meetings, professional development days, the professional development institute) to continuously improve overall goals and mission of the school.

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workdays/hours subject to change based on HCHS needs.   • Master's Degree or 5+ years experience,
  • A passion for and proven track record, either as a teacher or leader, of elevating student achievement with quantifiable academic results in schools, traditionally under-resourced communities, preferably at the high school level
  • CCSS-aligned content knowledge in math or ELA, 9-12 experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of pedagogy that leverages data, scheduling and opportunities to drive instruction and results
  • Highly organized and process oriented yet, flexible and able to shift priorities as needed
  • Significant experience in leadership roles at a school or similar education environment, with specific experience managing adults
  • A deep belief that all students can thrive in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive learning environment
  • Values and seeks out diverse perspectives with demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong belief in collaboration, including the sharing and spreading of best practices
  • Ability to think outside the box, generate new ideas, and problem solve innovatively
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
