Position Summary

Position Overview: The Director of Development is an experienced non-profit professional who assists in leading the fundraising efforts for Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri. This individual works alongside the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and the development team to plan and implement strategies to raise the organization's annual operating budget and capital funds as needed. This includes but is not limited to government and foundation grants, major gifts, sponsorships, individual giving, and fundraising events.

The Director of Development reports to the CDO and supervises the Donor Database Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an annual development plan for the organization.
  • Pursue and secure new corporate and institutional funding opportunities that align with GSKSMO's mission.
  • Contribute to the creation of funding proposals, program budgets, and strategy documents.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of high-level donors, focusing on cultivation and stewardship to deepen relationships.
  • Work closely with the development team to identify and cultivate new prospects across corporate, foundation, and government sectors.
  • Collaborate with GSKSMO departments to align and develop consistent fundraising materials and partnership agreements that meet donor expectations and GSKSMO priorities.
  • Event Management and Donor Recognition: Oversee the execution of special events, such as Tough Cookies and Trivia, to engage major donors, corporate sponsors and Girl Scout volunteers.
  • Manage donor recognition commitments, ensuring appropriate recognition through project activation, signage, and collateral.
  • Serve on the council leadership team, contributing to strategic problem-solving and decision-making that supports the council's success.
  • Partner with the Brand and Marketing team to create materials that support donor cultivation and enhance the Girl Scout image across Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.
  • Oversee supervisory responsibilities for the Donor Database Manager, including hiring, training, and performance management, to maintain a mission-aligned and productive team.
Qualifications
  • A passion for the mission of Girl Scouts.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years fundraising experience with demonstrated success in grant writing, major gifts and donor stewardship
  • Experience in government grant writing and management, fundraising event management and donor stewardship.
  • Established relationships and knowledge of the Kansas City philanthropic community
  • Excellent relationship-building and personal communication skills.
  • High-level writing skills; demonstrated ability to tell an organization's story in a compelling manner.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with emphasis on building relationships and asking for gifts.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team.
  • Proficient in database management, preferably Raisers Edge/NXT.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Employment is dependent upon the results of a criminal background investigation.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is remote-based, with regular travel required to the Overland Park office, various meeting locations around the Kansas City metro area, and our two camp locations.
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours to attend events and meetings.
