Position OverviewThe Director of Development is a key member of Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Leadership Team. They will work closely with the OSF Board of Directors, and specifically, the Development Committee and the Nominating Committee. This position will be responsible for articulating, planning, and overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive development plan for all sources of contributed revenue-from the board, individuals, as well as institutions, including foundation, corporate, and government funding. With a contributed revenue budget of over $17 million for FY25, this revenue target will grow to $25 million over the next five years to meet the organization's strategic goals and operating needs as outlined in the Five-Year Financial Plan.The Director of Development will be entering the organization at a time of great momentum, with new Artistic and Executive leadership, and will have the opportunity to re-engage past donors while recruiting new supporters to help shape the next decade at OSF. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):Fundraising
  • Provide strategic and creative leadership in raising over $17 million in annual contributed revenue through individual and board giving, foundation, government, corporate support, and special events
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, set annual goals for each line of contributed revenue
  • Articulate and lead a clear annual development plan which incorporates departmental short and long-term goals, benchmarks that reflect growth, specific targets for various areas of giving, and other necessary objectives
  • Oversee management of the department's budget and the annual evaluation of the development department's programs including cost benefit analysis/ROI
  • Create a strong and compelling case for support each year, aligned with organizational goals, integrated into various communication platforms, and utilized by staff and Board
  • Oversee the implementation and management of individual annual fund giving, including board gifts, major gifts ($25K+), and the organization's membership program, ensuring ongoing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for all donor levels.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of an array of cultivation events for current and prospective donors
  • Manage OSF's institutional giving strategies, including the cultivation of institutional relationships, and the workflow of the Grants Officer for Institutional and Government Gifts
  • Manage OSF's Corporate Relations Officer and their goals, strategies, and budget
  • Build ongoing relationships with Board members to further their engagement, and support them in cultivating relationships on behalf of the organization
  • Prepare and present monthly development reports and provide comprehensive updates at Board meetings to show progress towards goals
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board leadership, identify and recruit potential Board members and solidify onboarding processes for new members
  • Organizational and Departmental Leadership
  • Serve as a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and visible spokesperson and ambassador for the organization
  • Examine and improve systems to aid development operations, including ongoing fundraising communications, prospect research, and gift acknowledgments and processing
  • Manage the hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation processes for all development team members
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Marketing and Sales, Artistic and Executive Directors, and other team members to promote the brand of the organization and continuously understand and improve the patron's experience
  • Understand and uplift OSF's values and practices around equity, inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability

    • Minimum eight years of leadership experience in the non-profit development sector, with a proven track record of stewarding $1M + donors
    • Experience using CRMs/relational donor database and the ability to accurately analyze, interpret, and implement action plans based on patron data
    • Passion for the arts
    Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
    • Fundraising in a theatre or other ticketed sales environment
    • Knowledge of the arts and culture philanthropic community and familiarity with the West Coast and Southern Oregon region are advantageous
    • Ability to communicate ideas and plans with fellow staff and board members, then build consensus, and manage a project from start to finish
    • Capacity to build external relationships with a wide range of supporters and promote OSF's mission with passion and commitment
    • Demonstrated experience and success with capital fundraising and campaigns.
    • Excellent organizational, written/oral communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Experience planning and executing large-scale donor events (galas, etc.) and engaging a Board in the success of those events
    • Skill in both innovative and strategic thinking, with the ability to prioritize, manage the workflow of projects, and see the big picture
