Position Summary
The Director of Development is a strategic and visionary leader overseeing, proactively planning, and successfully executing SSHH's fundraising and development initiatives. This role is critical to advancing our mission and positioning SSHH for sustained growth, success, and long-term sustainability. This role involves creating and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, managing development operations, and inspiring engagement with SSHH's mission through community events. The ideal candidate will be passionate about affordable and sustainable housing, possess proven expertise in balancing multiple development initiatives at a time, and will excel at engaging diverse stakeholders.
This position is a full-time position with one PT Grant Writer reporting. The Director of Development is part of a small team at SSHH and is responsible for delivering on both the need for high level strategy as well as the ability to execute on specific initiatives. This position requires a demonstrated history and comfort with in-person, face-to-face communication. The Director of Development is expected to work occasional evenings and weekends as planned and necessary. This position is fully in-person at our offices in Norwell, MA, with some remote flexibility based on fundraising schedule and plans.
Key Responsibilities (with or without reasonable accommodation) include:
I. Increasing Donor Base and Revenue Sources
• Develop and execute an annual giving program producing $2 million per year from combined income sources (annual fundraising, grants, major gifts, town programs and grants, event income, and in-kind sources). Expand individual, corporate, foundation, and event-based giving to achieve annual revenue targets.
• Create engagement and cultivation opportunities for fundraising, using consistent messaging in alignment with strategic goals.
• Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, employing moves management principles to cultivate and steward relationships effectively.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and campaign committees to drive fundraising success, including setting benchmarks, identifying prospects, and securing transformative gifts.
• Work with other staff to identify and maintain philanthropic relationships with Towns and Cities within our service district.
• Manage and oversee the direct activities of the Grant Writer (PT/remote).
• Serve as an ambassador for the organization in the community.
II. Development Operations
• Oversee grant writing and reporting, including drafting, reviewing, and submitting proposals, and ensure detailed reports are submitted on time to align with funder priorities and guidelines.
• Lead the planning and execution of key fundraising events, including campaign-specific events, in collaboration with SSHH staff and volunteers.
• Manage donor databases and reporting systems to ensure accurate tracking and analysis of fundraising activities; work with Finance for reconciliation and reporting.
• Participate with HFHI colleagues in Collaborative Fundraising and other networking groups.
III. Event Management
• Manage all fundraising events.
• Identify and recruit volunteers and chairs to run the event.
• Create and manage event budgets
IV. In-kind Donations
• Work with construction staff to identify items and services for construction projects.
• Solicit and coordinate in-kind donations to reduce construction expenses.
• Ensure that in kind donations are tracked and acknowledged properly.
V. Additional Duties:
• Work with other staff to organize efforts, share information and maintain an organized and collaborative approach when dealing with SSHH constituents and stakeholders.
• Present a clear and consistent image of South Shore Habitat for Humanity; provide communications staff with appropriate content for mailed and digital communications.
• Focus on achieving the goals of the organization and the key metrics. Report weekly/monthly or as needed on the key metrics for your position.
• Perform other duties (e.g., copying, moving supplies, etc.) as needed. SSHH maintains a small office therefore, it is critical that all the employees have a “team” approach to their position.
• Maintain pleasant and professional demeanor and communication.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
• 5+ years of front-line experience in development/fundraising with proven results, including experience in multiple areas, e.g. major gift cultivation, campaign management, and donor stewardship.
• Excellent communication and organization skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen, engage, inspire and persuade involvement from donors.
• Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• High level of proficiency in MS Office applications required, including Word and Excel; functional ability with basic design software like Canva required; experience with CRM software required (DonorView preferred).
• A valid driver's license and use of a reliable vehicle.
• Team player with energetic spirit, strong work ethic, and collaborative mind set.
• Flexibility to work in a dynamic but small office environment.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• A passion for the mission of the organization.
• CFRE or CDE preferred
Salary
$90,000 per year, paid biweekly
