Job Title: Director of Family Services
Reports to: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Full time, Exempt
Location: Child Advocacy Center
PURPOSE:
The Director of Family Services reports directly to the Executive Director and is part of the leadership team of the organization. The director oversees the day-to-day operations of the family service programs offered at Canopy Child Advocacy Center. Direct victim service staff report directly to the Director of Family Services. The Director is responsible for supporting the leadership team in the development and implementation of new trauma informed programs and services of this children's advocacy center, as well as the overall daily functioning and maintenance of current service delivery structure. This position provides oversight of family services team, including supervision of advocates, support staff, and BSW interns, and client services scheduling, staffing, caregiver therapy, and strategic planning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Family Services Management
1. Administer and provide oversight for the Family Advocacy Department in all its functions.
2. Develop /update appropriate forms/ methods of documentation for tracking client participation and to meet the administrative needs of all direct service departments.
3. Collaborate with staff to develop and track service outcomes.
4. Assist in the development of appropriate documentation regarding client participation, progress and treatment plans across all departments.
5. Assist in the development and oversight of Volunteer Program as the program intersects with Family Advocacy Department.
6. Builds understanding of the CAC mission to develop and advance goals and strategies for Family Service's needs.
7. Gathers data and analyzes trends to understand operational performance and client needs, reviewing current services and programs for effectiveness, overseeing implementation of existing programs, assessing new program needs, assisting in creation of new programs and expanded services.
8. Is conversant with NCA Standards for children's advocacy centers and agency policies, protocols, and procedures.
9. Oversees records release of confidential information, as appropriate, when requested and/or subpoenaed.
10. Monitors and makes adjustment to Family Services expenses, which ensures a balanced budget.
11. Fosters healthy morale among staff. Makes staffing recommendations to support goals and work of the Center. Creates and maintains new staff orientation and training.
12. Prepares and leads staff meetings to review cases with direct services staff as necessary and provide in-house training opportunities.
13. Provides Supervision: Assists advocates, family resource manager, and support staff and interns in establishing their individual development plans and goals; provides guidance and support to staff in achieving goals; and ensures coverage for all needed services.
Direct Service
1. Makes contact with child and non-offending parent/caregiver(s) to provide support and information during and following a child's Forensic Interview at the CAC, attending pre and post interview meetings with the interview team and observing interviews as needed.
2. Provides emotional support, suicide risk assessments, and safety planning with clients following the interview.
3. Provides initial information and referral for needed services such as crisis counseling, long-term counseling, support groups, medical care, emergency financial assistance, Crime Victim Compensation, and other resources to resolve issues related to victimization.
4. Tracks court cases for clients, meets with caregivers prior to court to answer questions, organizes, and provides court tours, and serves as support person to caregivers during the court process.
5. Maintains working knowledge of community resources, locating new resources as requested by the MDT and when possible, to connect clients and non-offending family members to needed resources, internal and external.
6. Assists families in obtaining follow-up services such as counseling, medical appointment, court support, or court accompaniment. Works with on- and offsite Partner staff, CAC staff, and outside resources as needed.
General Programming
1. Support multidisciplinary team case review process in leadership role.
2. Assume a leadership role in ensuring collaboration amongst all members of the multi-disciplinary team, and partner with Board Committee Chair to lead the Program Committee as needed
3. Participate actively in local child abuse coalitions as needed to represent Canopy.
4. Assist in development endeavors including meetings with potential donors, tours of the Canopy's facility, speaking about the services that Canopy offers, and working with development staff on grants and other fund-raising opportunities as requested
5. Consistently maintains quality and productivity standards established for the role.
6. Respects, understands, and promotes Canopy mission, values, and goals.
7. Assumes additional responsibilities and special projects as needed and directed
8. Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, projects related to the management of Canopy as required by the Executive Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's Degree and experience in program planning and supervision. Master's Degree and licensure preferred.
2. Experience in crisis intervention, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child development, child welfare, the criminal justice system, medical social work and/or related areas.
3. Experience providing direct service and clinical supervision to a wide variety of victim advocate professionals
4. Strong clinical, supervisory, interpersonal, writing, public speaking, and organizational skills.
5. Must believe in and demonstrate a team concept of management.
6. Strong leadership and administrative experience.
7. Experience working with multidisciplinary team(s).
