The Director of Laboratory Operations will oversee the diagnostic laboratories' day-to-day operations in Houma, LA and Houston, TX, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellence in service delivery across both locations.
This role requires a strategic and detail-oriented leader with expertise in laboratory operations, budgeting, regulatory compliance, process improvement, and team development. The Director of Laboratory Operations will play a critical role in driving operational excellence while maintaining alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Manage and optimize all aspects of laboratory operations across both the Houma, LA and Houston, TX facilities, including workflow efficiency, resource allocation, leadership development, and staff performance.
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans to achieve organizational goals and growth at both sites.
- Ensure consistent operational standards and best practices across both laboratories.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure both laboratories operate in full compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections for both sites to identify and address compliance gaps.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the operational budgets for the Houma, LA and Houston, TX laboratories, ensuring financial efficiency and accountability with the Director of Finance.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and oversee procurement and resource management for both locations.
Process Improvement:
- Lead Lean Six Sigma initiatives across both laboratories to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall quality.
- Continuously evaluate and refine workflows to maximize productivity and maintain consistency between locations.
Team Development and Leadership:
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams at both laboratories, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Develop and implement leadership development programs to strengthen internal talent pipelines across both facilities.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute long-term operational strategies aligned with organizational objectives for both sites.
- Provide operational insights and recommendations to support business development and expansion across both regions.
Quality Assurance:
- Collaborate with our Technical Product Manager and Laboratory Operations Managers to strategize on the development and maintenance of quality control and quality assurance programs in both laboratories.
- Ensure the delivery of accurate and timely diagnostic services at both locations.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, vendors, and regulatory agencies, for both laboratories.
- Act as a liaison between the operations teams and other departments within the organization.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in diagnostic laboratory operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience with budgeting, financial management, and resource optimization.
- Demonstrated expertise in CLIA compliance and other regulatory requirements.
- Certifications:
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher preferred).
- Certification as a Laboratory Director or related credentials. Louisiana MLT license is a requirement.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- In-depth knowledge of diagnostic laboratory workflows, equipment, and quality standards.
- Analytical mindset with exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory management software and tools.
