Job Summary
A senior-level position specializing in working with clients to ensure working with clients on trial strategy and effective narrative case presentation for focus group testing, and devising creative solutions and winning strategies based on focus group results. Manages and mentors the litigation strategists.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Case Assessment and Strategy Development: Meet with clients to intake client matters and determine the most appropriate legal strategies for focus group presentations. This involves analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the case, identifying potential legal arguments, and formulating a comprehensive plan to achieve the desired outcomes.
- Team Management: They lead a team of litigation strategists on a given matter and mentor and develop their direct reports. This includes assigning responsibilities, monitoring progress, providing guidance and support, and ensuring the team's work aligns with the overall strategy. Reviewing and providing comments on written work and demonstrative aids; final quality control of work product.
- Client Management: Serve as primary contact for clients; lead meetings and strategy discussions with DRC's clients.
- Presenting and facilitating focus groups: Work toward presenting both sides of the case presentations at focus groups; facilitate mock jurors' deliberations at focus groups.
- Analysis/Synthesis: Ability to distill complex concepts and evidence into case presentations that simulate opening statements/closing arguments for focus group presentations. May assist clients with drafting of opening statements / closing arguments at trial.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to understand relevant statutes, regulations, case precedents, and legal theories that may impact the case. This helps in developing persuasive legal arguments and anticipating potential challenges. May assist clients with drafting motions for trial.
- Collaboration: They work closely with the Graphics and Research departments during the life cycle of a case. Ensure DRC Standards are met with regard to all work products prepared for a case/client.
- Case Monitoring and Reporting: They oversee the progress of ongoing litigation cases, ensuring adherence to timelines, procedural requirements, and court deadlines. They provide regular updates to senior management and other stakeholders, including reports on case status, key developments, and potential impacts on the organization.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: They collaborate with the finance department to develop litigation budgets, estimate costs, and allocate resources effectively. They oversee the financial aspects of litigation, including managing outside counsel fees, litigation expenses, and cost-saving initiatives.
Required Skills / Abilities
- Serve in a client-facing role
- Writing experience
- Presented oral argument or taken witnesses at trial (a plus)
- Picked a jury (with or without a consultant)
- Have some sort of creative background
- Having had a lot of client interaction, comfortable with talking to them
- Management experience, particularly helpful if they can manage multiple projects at the same time.
Education / Experience
- Counsel (8 years of experience) or (senior associate of 8+ years)
- JD and several years' experience providing strategic advice to clients or experience working in a role similar to litigation strategist”
- Able to communicate and work well with clients
- Comfortable presenting at focus groups
