About the Position:
The Logistic Director will coordinate and implement product transportation operations & safety policies and procedures in compliance with Federal, State and Local DOT Regulations for Triple-S Steel Holdings. The Logistics Director will develop a culture of Safety and Customer Service based on behaviors which promote and ensure effective, safe transportation operations in the organization. The position reports to Vice President Operational Excellence, Engineering, Safety & Logistics.
Responsibilities:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ensure that Logistic/Traffic maintains record keeping in compliance with the FMCSA / USDOT and other internal and external administrative requirements related to safe fleet operations and regulations.
- Provide training and development with clear paths for advancement for all Logistics / Transportation department colleagues.
- Hold Drivers, Fleet Manager, Driver Managers, Dispatchers, Operations and Branch managers accountable for implementation and adherence to Corporate Logistics Policies and Procedures.
General Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with executive leadership and regional safety managers to review, revise, prepare, policies and procedures.
- Ensures policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local transportation laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Drive Safety as related to loading & unloading, load securement, and all other facets of product transportation, inbound and outbound.
Carrier related duties:
- Ensure Master Service Agreement compliance between carriers, brokers, and Triple-S.
- Manage Certificates of Insurance for all brokers and common carriers.
Ensure COI approved by Director of Risk & Insurance
- Routinely audit carrier DOT Safety Ratings and manage Approved Carriers.
Activation/inactivation of carriers
Monitor Carrier 411 for DOT Compliance
- Manage cost effective routing of company trucks and the use of common carriers.
Negotiate rates for transportation including over the road, local, rail, barge, vessel, etc.
- Manage costs associated with fees:
Wait-time.
Tarping
Overnight stays
- Manage freight claims.
- Manage Carrier performance issues.
Mis-shipments / dropped
Overcharge issues
Billing
Payment
Reviewing dispatch rates
- Manage Carrier issues.
- Regularly audit carrier record keeping ensuring compliance.
- Work with Director of Insurance and Risk Management to mitigate risk related health and safety, general liability, and property damage as related to fleet operations.
Drivers and Traffic Teams
- Work with locations to manage driver payroll
Optimize control of driver overtime
Manage
- Driver Logs; Driver Qualification files; incident reporting, compliance reporting, and follow-up
- Conducts employee training on
Applicable safety standards.
Incident Reporting systems
Revisions and updated to FMCSA / DOT Regulations
Drives Driver Compliance training throughout the organization.
- Create statistics to measure productivity and customer satisfaction
- Create a driver scoring system to help in annual assessment and merit increase evaluation
- Ensure local driver managers are in compliance and effectively managing their drivers
- Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment
- Identifies opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems
- Reviews training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates
- Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess driver compliance with fleet safety regulations
- Reviews accident and incident reports, and works with managers to implement Corrective Actions based on R.C.A.
- Works with locations as related to DOT driver scores and management to reduce penalties and inspections
