Brief Job Description
The Director of Member Recruitment & Engagement manages all aspects of membership sales and member relations, with the critical objective of growing new members, retaining existing members, and managing sponsorship sales while simultaneously reducing member turnover.
Summary of Position
The Director of Member Recruitment & Engagement will be primarily responsible for the strategy for recruiting new members, retaining existing members, developing productive working relationships with members and volunteers, and all phases of membership sales and services.

Key Responsibilities:
Membership Growth:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to attract and retain members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Identify and target prospective members through research, outreach, and partnerships.
- Managing & supporting Account Executives in their recruitment efforts.
- Master a complete understanding of the membership recruitment process, including all processes in the CRM software, Simpleview.
- Setting monthly and annual membership recruitment and retention goals.
Engagement & Retention:
- Responsible for managing and implementing the new member onboarding process.
- Conduct regularly scheduled new member orientation/receptions.
- Work with the Communication team to effectively communicate with members on events, news, benefits, and other programming.
- Design and execute programs and initiatives that deliver exceptional value to members, increasing satisfaction and retention rates.
- Act as the primary point of contact for members, addressing their needs and fostering strong relationships.
Data-Driven Strategy:
- Analyze membership trends and leverage insights to develop innovative recruitment and engagement strategies.
- Utilize AI-driven tools to enhance member outreach and personalize engagement efforts.
Marketing & Communications:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling campaigns promoting membership benefits and events.
- Develop targeted communication strategies to connect with diverse member segments.
Event Collaboration:
- Develop and sell event sponsorships.
- Partner with the events team to organize networking opportunities, educational workshops, and signature events that align with members' needs.
- Seek out innovative sources of non-dues revenue.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in membership recruitment and engagement, preferably within a chamber of commerce or association setting.
- Strong background in developing and executing strategic plans to grow and retain membership.
- Familiarity with AI tools and technologies; experience in integrating AI into member engagement strategies is highly regarded.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a knack for building relationships and managing diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data to drive decisions and measure success.
- Marketing and event coordination experience is a plus.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in a chamber of commerce or association environment is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI-driven strategies for operational or engagement improvements.
