With over 500 members and a well-funded endowment, the Congregation has a unique position within the Unitarian Universalist denomination, supporting both local and national causes. Our members participate in a range of religious, music, social justice and fellowship programs within a welcoming environment. The Congregation also makes its vast property available for community activities.

Coming out of the Pandemic, the Congregation is engaged in a strategic plan to further its member and community engagement. Its organizational structure is evolving to meet this goal. A new position of Director of Operations has been developed to unify, align and oversee a broad range of organizational areas that support the operational needs of the Congregation, with a targeted focus on processes and systems that ensure optimal success of the member and guest experience and event management life cycle.

Responsibilities

Oversee member engagement & event management operational life cycle to include processes and systems to track congregational connections with members/ guests and ensure effective calendaring, promotion, and support of congregational activities. Indirectly support 10 staff that are involved in calendaring events.

Oversee management of the infrastructure and land stewardship to include staff, systems, processes, and vendor partnerships. Oversight would include both infrastructure and land management. Oversee the ecological stewardship of the congregation s 100-acre property and develop member and community based environmental programming through support of a land management ecologist and other resources.

Oversee the congregation s member and community communications to include staff, systems, and processes in support of newsletter production, website management, social media and other forms of communication.

Oversee the congregation s technology to include cloud telephony, internet services, hardware, member engagement and calendaring applications, and its managed technology vendor relationship.

Oversee the congregation s facility and office supply purchases.

Oversee the congregation s fleet of vehicles.

Accountable for the congregation s fire & safety systems to include inspections, vendor relationships and staff/member-led support teams.

Direct or indirect support of certain member-led operations and programming committees and work collaboratively with members to support their initiatives.

Work collaboratively with the ministerial team members to support their initiatives.

Development of policies and procedures across all areas of responsibility.

Annual operating budget development, accountability and responsibility of approximately $1.5M excluding staff compensation.

Annual capital budget development, accountability and responsibility of approximately $1M.

Direct reports to include the Facilities Director, Communications Manager, a Committee Assistant, and Receptionist. Organizational structure is subject to change.

Report to the Congregation Operations Administrator (COA) and have operational authority in the absence of the COA.

Requirements

Education: B.A. degree.

Background: Hospitality, Event/Conference Center or Membership Organization management preferred.

Denominational affiliation is not required. An understanding of religious organizations is helpful but not required. An understanding of Nonprofit organizations is helpful but not required.

Skills: Outstanding written and verbal skills. Transformational and disruptive leader who can engage staff and members beyond transactional activities by setting and communicating vision and strategy. Analytical ability for both tactical and strategic planning. Effective vendor management across varied services. Ability to understand and manage the interconnections between departments and have them work in a holistic manner to best serve the membership. Executive, if not specific knowledge, of a vast array of operational areas to include facilities, communications, technology and customer relations. Budget development and management experience. Ability to manage a diverse and changing set of customer interests and expectations.

Position Status: Exempt

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday. Evening hours may be required. 35 hours per week. This is primarily an onsite position. One non-Sunday may be considered for remote work.
