Job Description :

The Director of Sales is a professional position responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with existing clients, while also identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and assisting the team in closing sales. They are responsible for promoting Elliott Bay Design Group's list of services, identifying new potential service offerings and following up on customer satisfaction.

This position represents the EBDG brand, leveraging strengths in client interaction, proposal development, and industry engagement, while also driving new business opportunities and monitoring EBDG's industry reputation.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SALES
  • Follows established BD policies, CRM tools, and guidelines associated with this position.
  • Assists with the development of the Business Development Plan, policies, growth strategy, and budgeting process when called upon.
  • Actively supports, develops, and participates in Sales and Marketing activities in support of the company's initiatives and efforts.
  • Proactively leads development of and manages the corporate sales plan.
  • Actively engages with existing and potential clients to identify new projects and strategic expansion opportunities.
  • If practical, recommend the Principal in Charge (PIC) and Project Manager (PM) to best fit the client/project as well as distribute workloads.
  • Generates and pursues project leads and provides support to the assigned PIC and PM in discovery, development of proposal documents, finalizing contract terms, and closing the deals.
STRATEGIC GROWTH CONTRIBUTIONS
  • Work independently from, as well as with, the VP Strategic Expansion to explore potential new strategic market opportunities and services of EBDG, Inc. Solicits ideas through observations, research, employees, clients, and other resources within business industries that may be a fit for growth opportunity.
  • Meets with PICs on a regular basis to share lessons learned regarding project, client, team, and to expand company knowledge base.
  • Researches, recommends, and actively supports advancement of strategic initiatives that may help EBDG reach diversification and growth goals.
  • Is a crucial part of EBDG's business development leadership team and works in cooperation with the team to ensure EBDG has the best opportunity to meet or exceed our net revenue targets.
  • Works with the PIC team, VP Strategic Expansion and BD Management to develop strategies to improve company performance through strategic direction and general sales.

  • Guides development of, and then follows and enforces, company policies and procedures.
  • Lives the company core values and acts as an example of desired employee behavior.
  • Initiates interactions with other Sr. Staff, attends meetings, participates in special committees or teams to move forward initiatives, address business challenges, or share in successes.
  • Clearly and effectively articulates EBDG's value propositions and solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Engages with all EBDG staff and clients in a cooperative, professional, and supportive manner.
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn and grow daily and freely share their own knowledge and experience with fellow staff.

  • Communicates clearly using all EBDG standard tools and processes.
  • Presents EBDG in a positive light in all client engagements.
  • Maintains an open mind and respect for the ideas of others.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor whenever representing EBDG.
MENTORSHIP & LEARNING
  • Mentor to, and champion for, staff interested in sales leadership career path.
  • Mentor staff on development of Big Ideas and business plans.
  • Recommend individuals to PIC/BD for Sales leadership opportunities.
  • Identify sales and client relations focused educational and training opportunities for staff.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Actively pursue and model lifelong professional improvement, such as involvement in industry related societies, groups, and other professional development activities.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration or engineering is preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible related Maritime Sales experience for an organization in or servicing the Marine Industry and 15 years of Marine Industry Experience.
  • Strong leader with a high degree of integrity and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and logic skills; ability to discern cause and effect relationships and conceptualize an analytical framework.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize/summarize data and present as information.
  • Ability to initiate and grow relationships with clients and partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet required deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and CRM software.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States with the ability to travel internationally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Up to 35% travel may be required for business related events, including trade shows, and at the discretion of the BD Leadership Team.
  • Work is primarily done in a climate-controlled office (on-site or remotely) with moderate noise levels and minimal distractions.

  • Business development activities may require occasional visits to shipyards and other industrial environments.
  • Standard hours, plus evening and weekend work including work-related events.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Successful completion of drug testing is a conditional requirement of the employment process.
  • Physical requirements of the position include regularly required to talk or hear, vision capabilities, as well as the ability to frequently stand, walk; and use hands; fingers and arms. Additional abilities include sitting, climbing and balancing, as well as the ability to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
