Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Five (5) or more years of experience in health care compliance, corporate compliance, or University compliance. Two (2) or more years of leadership and/or supervisory experience. Experience working with multidisciplinary areas, including, but not limited to clinical, finance, procurement, information management and human resources. Experience working with industry standards, laws and regulations pertaining to compliance and privacy. Experience conducting and overseeing investigations. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Certification or certification eligible in Health Care Compliance or Compliance and Ethics or Graduate Certificate in Health Care Compliance or Compliance and Ethics. Coding certification through American Health Information Management Association or the American Academy Professional Coders as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P), Certified Professional Medical Coder (CPC), or Professional Medical Coder Outpatient Hospital (COC).Health Sciences School compliance experience (e.g., Dental, Social Welfare, Medicine, Nursing, Health Technology and Management, Pharmacy). Brief Description of the Position: The Director of Stony Brook Medicine (SBM) Health Sciences Schools Compliance and Privacy will assist the Chief Compliance Officer for SBM in carrying out the mission and goals of the Health Sciences Schools and the Compliance Program. The Director will participate in the oversight, assessment, and further development of our compliance programs as well as provide guidance, education and mentoring to the Health Sciences Schools, including the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Social Welfare, School of Health Technology and Management, School of Dental Medicine, School of Pharmacy, and any future Health Sciences Schools (collectively HSC). The Director will collaborate with Stony Brook University and Stony Brook University Hospitals Compliance and Audit resources on the design and implementation of an annual Work Plan. The Director will partner with Management to provide continual risk assessment, and in the development of comprehensive compliance documents, policies, and procedures, compliance training, and compliance investigations. The ideal applicant will have the ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time. The ideal applicant will have a demonstrated understanding of the elements of an effective compliance program. The ideal applicant will have strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills. Duties:
  • Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Design, implement and report on programs, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements for the HSC.
    • Perform administrative operations duties related to clinical affiliation agreements, change management, project management, and onboarding and offboarding functions.
  • Investigations and Reporting:
    • Lead, manage, conduct, and oversee compliance and privacy investigations and audits throughout HSC, including compiling detailed reports with recommendations to the Chief Compliance Officer and Management.
  • Education, Training and Guidance:
    • Develop compliance and privacy training materials and provide ongoing compliance guidance, education and training throughout SBMs Health Sciences Schools.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for staff inquiries on health center and University policies.
    • Provide guidance to Management on compliance and/or privacy issues and inquiries; collaborate with Management for reasonable solutions with process improvements.
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Strengthen and enhance SBM's Health Sciences Schools Compliance and Privacy Program(s).
    • Develop and implement an annual Compliance Work Plan and Compliance policies and procedures in conjunction with Health Sciences School leadership.
    • Partner and liaise between HSC and Stony Brook Medicine clinical services to enhance communication and collaboration.
    • Lead Compliance Workgroup Meetings for applicable schools.
    • Serve on HSC executive committee(s) as required.
    • Perform administrative operations duties related to clinical affiliation agreements, change management, project management, and onboarding and offboarding functions.
  • Oversight:
    • Other duties, including management and supervision of any compliance staff reporting to this position.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
