Director of the Financial Aid CenterAGENCY OVERVIEW:Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. The Financial Aid Center provides loans, grants, and scholarships for emergency assistance, educational opportunities, business development, and Jewish summer camps/programs for Bay Area residents. We provide individuals in our community the support to help develop, restore, and maintain their self-reliance.
POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the JFCS Financial Aid Center offers student loans and grants, and small business loans to qualified individuals in our service area. The Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Center; provides direct service to clients seeking financial assistance; works with Development to increase available funds for the program and works with Board level volunteer oversight committees to facilitate their work in approving loans and grants.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Interview and assist student applicants for grants and loans, preparing requests for approval by the Loans and Grants Committee
Process loan and grant applications ensuring all appropriate documentation is collected and tracked
Provide consultation on financial planning and budgeting to clients
Assist business loan applicants with financial projections, calculations of capital requirements and business plan analysis and development and enlist appropriate mentors and incubation services for applicants as needed
Develop resource materials on services relevant to student and business loan applicants
Staff the Loans and Grants Committee of the Board of Directors, including set-up and coordination of meetings preparation, and presentation of loan and grant applications
Create and maintain records and documents:
Maintain a database tracking financial aid applicants from the application stage through an approval process, the disbursement of funds, and the repayment of loans
Produce loan documents for each approved loan
Keep records of loan funds granted and disbursed on a year-to-date and fund-by-fund basis
Review loan portfolios to ensure that all loans are paid on a timely basis, institute collection efforts on delinquent loans as appropriate
Collaborate with YouthFirst department to ensure that teen participants are informed of financial aid offerings through the department. Engage past loan and grant recipients as feasible as internship sites, as volunteers, and as career night speakers
Provide consultation to staff providing financial and case management services to emergency assistance clients. Review financial assistance requests, as needed, and ensure consistency in evaluation of requests and disbursement of funds. Work closely with JFCS direct service and supervisory staff to integrate financial consultation into case management services
Work with the Development staff and the Associate Executive Director to expand resources and raise additional funding for the Financial Aid Center. Provide materials to the Development and Marketing departments that highlight former recipients' accomplishments and the role of the Financial Aid Center in helping them to achieve their goals. Conduct targeted outreach to past financial aid recipients for further engagement with JFCS as donors
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Degree in business administration, accounting, or finance, preferred
Experience with educational financial aid operations preferred
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, credit reports, and income, expense, and cash flow projections.
Familiarity with personal financial management strategies and techniques
Interest in working in social services setting and in helping individuals and families attain goals and become self-sufficient
Demonstrated ability to be supportive of clients in a social service setting and to appropriately communicate the limits of service and resources available
