This position is in a civil service competitive class that is subject to examination. Position is only open to current City employees with permanent NYC civil service status as Administrative Education Officer or permanent in an equivalent title that is eligible for transfer under 6.1.9 to Administrative Education Officer. Description:

Position Summary: The New York City Public Schools (NYCPS)'s mission is to ensure that each student graduates on a pathway to a rewarding career and long-term economic security, equipped to be a positive force for change. To deliver on this mission, the Office of Student Pathways (Pathways) seeks to ensure all students graduate with real-world skills and experience, a head start on life after high school, and a strong plan to put them on this path.

The Office of Student Pathways, under the leadership of the Chief of Student Pathways, leads the district-wide strategy to achieve NYCPS' bold mission and reimagine the student experience through career-connected learning to ensure that by 2030:

  • All NYCPS students enter high school with skills in financial literacy and computational thinking and having explored careers of interest.
  • All NYCPS graduates have foundational skills for career readiness, digital fluency, and financial literacy; a strong postsecondary plan; and early college credits/career credentials.
  • At least 100,000 NYCPS high schoolers will be in high-quality, accelerated early college and career pathways.
  • The Director, Tech Pathways will work to ensure we deliver against this vision by working with schools who are establishing pathways programs in technology. This work will include ensuring alignment of curriculum to employer and labor market needs; supporting the building of work-based learning experiences for students; implementing career pathways aligned early college credit and credentialing; and supporting schools in implementing tech pathways. Performs related work.

    Reports to: Senior Director, Future Ready NYC

    Direct Reports: N/A

    Key Relationships: Works closely with the Senior Director, Career Pathways, Mayor's Office, the Chancellor's Office, Student Pathways leadership, and related offices with Office of the First Deputy Chancellor, including School Planning and Design, and the School Construction Authority, Superintendents, Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT), and the Fund for Public Schools. This position will also work with NYCPS principals, City University of New York (CUNY), educators and others to successfully implement initiatives and programs needed to meet the needs of students and staff in building career and college hubs and new school models.

    Responsibilities:

    • Supports management of policy, strategic and implementation planning of citywide career-connected pathways strategy in technology.
    • Supports significant policy decisions impacting external partners in career-connected pathways in technology.
    • Supports decision-making related to developing new partnerships for schools implementing career-connected pathways in technology.
    • Supports design of school recruitment, selection, and sustainability in technology.
    • Monitors the development and growth of career-connected pathway programs to ensure alignment to labor market trends.
    • Manages vendor relationships, creating and implementing work plans.
    • Supports development of professional learning opportunities and coaching for school-based implementation.
    • Collaborates with various offices within the NYCPS.
    • Prepares internal reports for senior leadership, including policy, evaluation, and implementation recommendations.

    Qualification Requirements:

    Minimum:

    • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and two years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience in education administration; or
    • A baccalaureate degree and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience; or
    • A high school diploma and six years of satisfactory, full-time professional experience; or
    • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with specific managerial experience required.

    Preferred:

    • Deep experience and expertise in workforce and technology.
    • Wide experience working with education clients.
    • Expertise in career and technical education, postsecondary success, and/or workforce education.
    • Experience in the private sector or building relationships with employers, particularly in the tech sector.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to think strategically and translate insights into action.
    • Creative problem-solver with independent analytical skills.
