POSITION SUMMARY The Campus Security Dispatcher position involves operating a variety of communications equipment including two-way radios, multi-line telephone system, computer aided dispatch software and multiple computer screens to capture information, relay information and dispatch officers to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service. The dispatcher, at times under stressful situations, must quickly deliver calm, professional and courteous service. The dispatcher is often the first level of contact with students, faculty, staff and the general public requesting assistance from campus security. This position is responsible for all emergency and non-emergency communication for the College Community, communicating via two-way radio and telephone with security patrols, emergency responders and auxiliary departments. Additionally, this position handles walk ups, monitors fire alarm systems, door access controls, as well as the College's CCTV system. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Job duties specific to this position
  • Promptly receive emergency and non-emergency calls requesting campus security assistance; determine nature, location and priority of the call and dispatch assignments and information to responding patrol units.
  • Ability to multi-task and answer multi-line phone system.
  • Coordinate, monitor and engage in radio and telephone communications between and with officers, other personnel and off-campus agencies (911 center, fire, police, EMS, facilities, athletics).
  • Make urgent and critically important decisions regarding emergency situations based on training, skills and policies & procedures.
  • Ensure that all required information is accurately collected and properly entered into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Post appropriate entries in the read & sign .
  • Use iParq to issue and process temporary parking permits and resolve other vehicle-related issues on College owned properties.
  • Proactively assist community members with handicap/accessible parking issues on campus.
  • Monitor a variety of Safety & Security technology platforms including access control systems, emergency notification systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and video security systems, alarm panels, etc., and take appropriate action as necessary and required.
  • Assist Campus Safety & Security officers and law enforcement officials in searching for and downloading videos related to a particular incident or criminal investigation.
  • Provide professional and composed verbal communications with the general public and outside responders, maintaining sound customer service practices, at times under stressful conditions.
  • Monitors and dispatches officers to calls from the College's internal 911system, as well as from campus Blue light emergency telephones and other means of emergency communication.
  • Operate and activate the College's emergency notification system.
  • Provide Service to walk in customers
  • Comply with all Federal, State, Local and College regulations relative to communications, protected data and information.
  • Screen and distribute keys to authorized vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interrelate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and other related duties as assigned

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to quickly and accurately enter verbally transmitted information and data utilizing a computer keyboard
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and undertake multiple projects simultaneously.
  • As a designated essential employee , must be able to remain on duty beyond normal shift or report to duty without advance notice in an emergency
  • Must possess a high level of self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior work experience in an emergency communication/dispatch center preferred
  • Prior experience working in a college/university public safety setting preferred
