Dispatcher Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this JobPosting DetailsPosition InformationJob Title DispatcherFull Time/Part Time Full TimeFLSA Non-ExemptGeneral Job DescriptionThis is an entry-level position responsible for operating a two-way radio communication base station and performing specialized tasks requiring application of university rules and regulations and two-way communications equipment. Responsible for transmitting radio communications and transcribing radio and telephone communications to writing in compliance with departmental operating procedures and FCC regulations. Maintains various departmental logs. Uses computer terminal to access state and national data banks via the Department of Public Safety's National Crime Information Center. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Dispatch Coordinator.Essential Job FunctionsDispatches university police and emergency medical services in response to requests or emergencies.Works with local police and fire departments in on-campus emergencies.Receives and routes incoming work.Receives, documents, and routes telephone calls or orders.Serves as campus operator after normal business hours.Monitors all city-wide emergency communication bands.Uses computer terminal to access data banks on a state and national level.Operates department's two-way radio communications base and performs duties involving transmitting radio communications and transcribing radio communications in compliance with departmental operating procedures and FCC regulations.Dispatches maintenance personnel for after-hour emergencies.Operates teletype.Receives fire, burglar alarm, and entry signals and takes appropriate action according to established departmental procedures.Non-Essential Job FunctionsMay maintain or supervise the maintenance of a complex file and cross reference system.May maintain mileage logs, key inventory logs, time sheets, etc.May have occasion to operate Telephone Device for the Deaf ( TDD ) equipment.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, applicable FCC licensing requirements and related policies and procedures.Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations and to obtain accurate information from person requesting assistance.Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.Ability to understand and follow complex instructions.Ability to maintain and establish good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.Ability to obtain and maintain TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator license.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Physical DemandsRequired EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Must meet all other minimum standards for appointment as established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement ( TCOLE ) in Texas Administrative Code Chapter 217.Required Experience and TrainingTCOLE Basic Telecommunicator license or ability to qualify for and acquire a basic license is required.Preferred QualificationsExperience in use of two-way communication equipment or equivalent experience in radio communications is preferred.Special Conditions for EligibilityThis is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.This is an IT-sensitive position subject to Computer and Network Security policy.Min Pay RateMid Pay RateSalary Information Salary Grade - 19Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this PostingThis is a night shift position.Is Background Check Required?
