About the Position • The Driver Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling and dispatching drivers and equipment to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs. Functions • Oversee communications with drivers including relaying work orders, messages, and information to or from drivers and supervisors • Prepare and coordinate service, daily work and run schedules for drivers. • Receive and prepare work orders from customers and determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required to meet specifications • Determine optimal backhaul shipments for returning drivers which may include declining backhauls or returning drivers without a backhaul • Confer with customers or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment. • Advise drivers about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards. • Negotiate backhaul pricing with brokerage companies. • Record and maintain files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information. • Utilize TMW Dispatching software and HOS management software for recordkeeping, invoicing, and driver payroll data entry. • Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent is required. • Minimum of one year of experience in transportation environment or related required.
