JOB SUMMARY

To provide essential communication services for EMS. Work involves radio dispatching, operating EMS communication instruments, and coordinating the overall EMS communication system.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the shift supervisorand/or designee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education

High School Diploma or GED required

Work Experience

Previous experience as a dispatcher is preferred

License/Certification

Must obtain Tennessee state certification for dispatcher in six (6) months of date of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Receives, relays, and/or transmits routine and emergency calls to police, fire, and other public safety agencies and units.

Maintains a log of radio transmissions, telephone calls, and other pertinent information and facts

Inputs communication and other pertinent data into a computer system

Monitors 911 calls

Maintains incident reports of complaints.

Prepares and types a variety of reports.

Performs assignments based upon established policies and procedures.

Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.

Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.

Maintains compliance with organization's policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.

Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Performs other duties as required and serves on special projects and employee program events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged periods of sitting

Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.

Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Must be able to hear clearly with assistance

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases

Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations

May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary

Transferring, repositioning patients.

Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.

Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.

Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
