Position Summary
Work involves receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, monitor alarms, monitor video surveillance systems, obtaining and relaying information, prioritizing calls for service, prioritizing alarm response and coordinating response procedures, dispatching appropriate public safety personnel, and maintaining public safety communications logs and databases. Employees are responsible for operating a host of complex telecommunications and computer equipment to include multi-line phones systems, multi-channel police consoles, two-way radios, emergency alert notification systems, video surveillance systems, and Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Terminals.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
One year of college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Duties
* This is an essential position assigned to perform technical communications work in support of Public Safety Telecommunications for Elon University Police Department. Work involves receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, monitor alarms, monitor video surveillance systems, obtaining and relaying information, prioritizing calls for service, prioritizing alarm response and coordinating response procedures, dispatching appropriate public safety personnel, and maintaining public safety communications logs and databases. Employees are responsible for operating a host of complex telecommunications and computer equipment to include multi-line phones systems, multi-channel police consoles, two-way radios, emergency alert notification systems, video surveillance systems, and Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Terminals. Applies considerable knowledge of departmental policies and procedures related to the answering, response, and dispatch of calls in a complex telecommunications environment. Requires the ability to be able to manage multiple tasks and to remain calm and composed in high- stress situations. Ability to enter information accurately and efficiently into computer data base and maintain DCI certification and have the ability to locate information from DCI terminal or other sources as requested for law enforcement support. Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion in the course of conducting business.
