Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Distribution System Superintendent. Job Duties
- Installs new water taps, service connections, meters, valves, and hydrants.
- Reads meters on a monthly cycle, locks customer meters for non-payment of bills.
- Performs routine maintenance on hydrants, valves, meters/boxes, and end of the waterline blow-off assemblies.
- Locates utility water lines for contractors, homeowners, and construction.
- Repairs water mains and services line leaks.
- Performs ground maintenance at distribution facilities, water tower sites and pump stations.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Position Qualifications
- General knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in water distribution system maintenance and repair.
- General knowledge of the occupational hazards and of the necessary safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to operate a backhoe, jackhammer, and other large pieces of equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, associates, and customers.
