POSITION: District Court Deputy Clerk IISUPERVISOR: District Court Judge/Court AdministratorJOB CODE: Information/ TrafficFLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exemptSALARY GRADE: 5RATE OF PAY:$18.96 - 20.07LOCATION: 90 th District Court, Emmet County BuildingDATE: 11/21/2024POSITION SUMMARY:Main contact for theCourt. Performs a variety of complex clerical tasks involved in processing criminal, traffic, civil and probation cases. Provides information and assistance to law enforcement officers, attorney, defendants and Court patrons. District Court Deputy Clerks will be required to work in the civil, criminal, traffic probation or other divisions/areas of the Court as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:First to answer the telephone main line. Direct calls to the appropriate person/department. Main contact for all traffic calls and paperwork.Primary check-in contact at front window. Alerts appropriate court staff when needed at the counter.Processes mail and court paperwork, affixing a date stamp to all incoming paperwork as required by each department. Creates log of monies received.Receives tickets, complaints, filings and related documents; opens new case files; enters case information into the computer; files case documents.Monitors the Michigan State Police tickets daily, and transfers tickets to our computer system. Provides accurate information to the Secretary of State through updated abstracting.Operates a computer to enter, update, correct and access case information; and to produce computer-generated forms.Documents case activity and other pertinent case information on Court documents and in the computer; maintains case histories on each case.Provides information to attorneys, law enforcement officer, defendants, court patrons and agencies about court policies and procedures, case status, scheduling of court proceedings and court proceedings in general.Schedules court proceedings and issues notices to the appropriate parties. Schedules hearings and appointments for the Attorney Magistrate.Distributes and recalls search and arrest warrants. Maintains records of warrants issued and recalled and ensures appropriate warrant/bond documents have been filed.Monitors case/ticket files and initiates enforcement action on overdue appearance dates.Prepares and distributes a variety of legal documents, judgments of sentence, orders to show cause, default judgments, delinquency notices and other legal documents.Receives, receipts, and records fines, costs, bonds, restitution, fees and other monies. Issues bond refunds, forfeits and/or applies bond monies to pay fines, costs and other assessment, or distribute monies in accordance with Court orders. Manages disbursement of restitution payments.Prepares and distributes various daily reports, registers and notices generated by the computer system. Prepares daily financial reconciliation to include daily deposits. Takes daily transmittal to the Treasurers department.Perform work safely.Attend training and seminars as requested.Deputy Clerks are cross-trained to assist in other areas of the court as required.DESIRED BEHAVIORAL TRAITS:Ability to assist the public in a welcoming, calm, polite and efficient manner; Ability to work in difficult situations; Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:Requires organizational skills, attention to detail with precise computer entry work.
