Hours: This is an 8-hour per day position, 5 days per week; start time may vary depending on the assigned work area and building schedule. LINE OF AUTHORITY: Responsible to the Director of Operations; Assistant Director of Operations, Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Coordinator, and Grounds Foreman RATE OF PAY: $25.44/hour per the 2021-2023 salary schedule for local #70 Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs repairs and maintenance to District 197 vehicles and grounds equipment; such as engine tune-ups, brake repair/replacement, hydraulic repairs, component replacement, engine and vehicle diagnosis, wheel bearing replacement and maintenance, vehicle air brake system repairs, etc.
- Waters, cuts, trims and applies pesticides to lawns, trees and shrubs.
- Maintains all landscaping equipment, grounds equipment, District 197 vehicles and outdoor athletic equipment
- Prepares fields for athletic events
- Sets up athletic equipment
- Operates trucks, plows, front end loaders, athletic field equipment, commercial lawn mowers, and other grounds equipment and vehicles
- Performs gas and arc welding on equipment as required
- Makes repairs to athletic field equipment
- Custodial duties as needed for sub fill in, including tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dumping trash, cleaning, light building repairs, etc.
- May fill in for any Buildings & Grounds employee or district driving position
- During non-school days this person would report to the grounds crew.
Working Conditions: Grease, oil, vapors, engine noise, heat, extreme climatic conditions are common in this work. Although minimized by safety practices, accidents and physical hazards connected with this work are always present. Tasks involve lifting, stooping, bending, carrying, operating motor vehicles and long periods of standing, sitting or walking. Physical Requirements: This position requires good physical conditioning, manual dexterity, upper body strength, good depth perception, endurance, eye-hand coordination, and agility with no serious defect of vision, hearing or members. Must be able to repetitively lift 75# on a regular basis. Special Requirements: Persons in this position must acquire within six months, and maintain a State of MN Pesticide Applicators License. Contacts and Relationships: Persons in this position come into contact with teachers, students, parents, staff etc. Communication, personal appearance, cooperative attitude, willingness to assist, and establish good working relationships are essential. Minimum Qualifications:
- MN Commercial, Class B vehicle operator's license. Restrictions that would prevent the operation of any district vehicle are not allowed. Current licensure is required at all times.
- Two years experience performing vehicle/small engine repairs or completion of postsecondary courses in automotive or small engine programs.
- Two years experience operating grounds equipment and vehicles
- Gas and arc welding experience
- Excellent MN driving record. Verification will be required.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions
- A hands on and or written test may be administered to verify abilities
- Two years experience in grounds maintenance related position in a commercial setting (commercial mowing, commercial snow plowing or athletic field maintenance)
- Ability and proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Knowledge of standard safety procedures associated with this work
- Able to operate equipment associated with custodial operations
