Brief Position Overview:

The Diversity & Inclusion Student Commons (DISC) and Montana State University is seeking a highly energetic and organized professional to support students and other members of the institution. The DISC is one of the most dynamic and engaged offices on campus. We promote inclusion and understanding of difference, support students from underrepresented identity groups, and encourage critical thinking about diversity topics.

Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications

General Statement:

The mission of the Diversity & Inclusion Student Commons (DISC) is to increase understanding, promote inclusion, and inspire critical thinking about diversity, as well as to provide support for students who identify with a wide range of diverse identity groups. The Managing Director reports to the Senior Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee direct support services to MSU students identifying with a wide range of underrepresented identities.
  • Develop and implement programs to support underrepresented and/or marginalized students, and foster a sense of community and belonging among students.
  • Oversee the student commons space, including coordination of community building activities.
  • Offer opportunities for students across a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences to engage in dialogue with each other.
  • Create opportunities for students to develop skills around inclusive leadership and change management.
  • Oversee recruitment and training of student employees, volunteers, and diversity and inclusion ambassadors.
  • Provide individual and department-wide consultation to faculty and staff working with underrepresented students.
  • Act as a front-line resource to any student in need of support with diversity-related issues/challenges.
  • Build connections with student organizations and other campus units to develop coordinated support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Multicultural Affairs or related field or 2 years of professional experience working with diversity/multicultural issues on a college or university campus.
  • Demonstrated strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse students or populations.
  • Demonstrated program, project and event management skills.
  • Successful experience completing complex tasks, independently, with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Adult & Higher Education, Multicultural Affairs or related field.
  • Experience working in a campus setting with students of color and LGBTQ+ students.
  • Experience advocating and building a campus consensus to improve outcomes.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information:

Work is typically performed in a normal office environment, with recurring and frequent early/late and weekend hours required. Limited travel is required.
