POSITION SUMMARYUnder general supervision of the Clinical supervisor and the administrative direction of the Clinic Practice Administrator, provides emotional and physical support to the mother throughout the patient pregnancy, will support pregnancy-related educating and perform screenings to educate and assess pregnant members needs related to, but not limited to, cardiovascular health, substance abuse, safety, mental health and resolve any social determinants of health.B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Providing the mother with emotional, physical, moral, and educational support, especially during times when the father and other close relatives are unavailable.
  • Listening to the concerns and questions of the mother in a kind, non-judgmental way and offering the best possible advice.
  • Attending prenatal meetings to get to know the mother and establish her birth preferences and other requirements.
  • Remaining with the mother throughout labor and providing physical and emotional support during and after childbirth.
  • Keeping up to date on childbirth support, birthing techniques, and pre and post-natal care by conducting research, networking with other Doulas and mothers, and attending workshops and lectures.
  • Assisting in whatever way possible to make the transition to motherhood easier.
RequirementsC. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required in related field (nursing, midwifery, public health, social work or psychology)
  • Experience working with diverse populations
D. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Doula certification from DONA International, CAPPA, or similar organization
  • CPR certification
E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent technical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work long hours.
  • Professional accountability and leadership.
  • Ability to assess, use critical thinking, evaluation, and intervention.
  • Participation in continuing education programs to maintain current license/certificates.
  • Knowledge of current trends and procedures in radiology technology profession.
  • Extensive childbirth experience.
  • Relevant certification might be required.
  • A calming and nurturing presence.
  • The ability to answer questions and provide guidance in a non-judgmental way.
  • A wealth of knowledge on childbirth and pre- and post-natal care.
  • The ability to remain calm, multitask and provide emotional support.
  • Natural ability to support and guide.
  • Patient, forthcoming, and able to provide practical advice as well as kind words of support.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
F. AGE OF PATIENTS SERVED
  • Adult and infant/pediatric patients.
G. PHYSICAL CHARATERISTICS/WORKING CONDITIONSA person in this position has sufficient time to complete most tasks although under pressure depending on patient and organization demands. There are opportunities to relax from any physical exertion or to change position in work activities.
  • Physical Effort and Dexterity: Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Machines, Tools, Equipment: Capable of using medical equipment, office machines and personal computers for word-processing and data entry.
  • Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking: Must be able to read results of medical tests and computer monitor and outputs accurately. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance.
  • Environment/Working Conditions: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Work is inside a clinic in a controlled environment at multiple health centers working with managers, providers, support staff, and FCCH partners. Normal office and clinic safety precautions and practices are required. Position requires travel throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area. Work scheduled regularly Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM, although weekends may be required to meet deadlines.
