Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds, as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
FM's Capitol Construction and Renovations (CCR) team has an exciting opportunity for a Drywall/Plaster Assistant. CCR supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable electrical construction and maintenance to the University community.
Position Summary:
Drywall/Plaster Assistants support the work of licensed journey level drywall/plasterers, seniors, and supervisors while becoming more skilled in the trade. They help ensure the highest quality trade products for the University and Medical Center. They learn the skilled Drywall/Plaster trade through on-the-job training, from skilled Drywall/Plasterers. Through their work with skilled Drywall/Plasterers they become experienced. Drywall/Plaster Assistants function in a learning capacity and operate under direct supervision.
Duties Include:
* Assist skilled journey level Drywall/Plasterers in performing building construction, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup.
* Assist Drywall/Plasterers with the demo repair and new installation of finishing drywall to include plaster system.
* Assist Drywall/Plasterers with preparatory of surface to include scaffold and the erection of scaffold.
* Respond to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as needed.
* Communicate with customers regarding the status of work order, providing additional support and problem solving, as needed.
* Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
* Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of drywall/plaster trade.
* Actively participate in classroom and on-the-job training.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Ability to use hand tools and power tools related to the trade
* Ability to lift 80lbs
* Ability to use and work from ladders and scaffold
Preferred Qualifications
* Some experience in the Drywall Plaster trade
For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, including a health screen prior to their start date.
Compensation:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $18.00 - $22.00 ($37,440 - $45,760 per year). T his is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands :
Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
