Come join a multiagency, multisector collaboration working to implement the 10-Year Plan to Dismantle Poverty. This role will support the Alliance and its state, tribal and community partners to achieve its goal of advancing policy, program and funding changes that ensure every Washingtonian can meet their basic needs, fully contribute their talents, and pass well-being on to future generations.The Economic Justice Alliance is focused on implementing the Blueprint for a Just & Equitable Future: Washington State's (10-Year Plan). We are looking for highly skilled administrative assistant and organizational expert who will support the state's multisector and multiagency efforts to reduce poverty and achieve economic justice in Washington. In this role, you will report to the Senior Director, Poverty Reduction in the Office of the Secretary and work with a creative and talented interagency team to support on the implementation of the state's poverty reduction and economic justice efforts. The Administrative Assistant serves as the principal assistant in administrative matters, operations and program development to the Senior Director, Economic Justice, and the Economic Justice team within the Office of the Secretary (OOS). The role is responsible for ensuring seamless internal operations as the team facilitates partnerships, meetings, and initiatives across the WA Economic Justice Alliance, which includes:
  • Economic Justice Advisory Council, a group that supports the implementation of Alliance initiatives by providing strategic guidance, monitoring progress, fostering community engagement, and supporting policy and funding changes. The Council ensures decisions are informed by those most impacted, promoting diverse and equitable participation across the state, which includes a Steering Committee of people with lived experience in poverty and community organizations with missions aligned with achieving economic justice.
  • Subcabinet on Intergenerational Poverty (IGPS), a group of executive branch agencies aligning their unique contributions to reducing poverty.
  • Legislative-Executive WorkFirst Poverty Reduction Oversight Task Force (LEWPRO), a group of legislators and state leaders who listen, debate, and consider policy, program, and funding recommendations from PRWG and the Subcabinet.
The Administrative Assistant will routinely engage with Alliance staff, Alliance members, Governor's Office, Legislature, state agencies, people with live experience, community partners and advocates. DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES The Administrative Assistant will:
  • Coordinate much of the logistical duties for the Alliance including, but not limited to, event/meeting logistics, scheduling, minutes, purchasing, travel arrangements and reimbursements, etc. (30%).
  • Document and administrative support of the Alliance filing system, documentation of stories/learnings, ensure the Alliance has the necessary technology to fulfill its work (20%).
  • Support the Alliance with appropriate DSHS procedures and contract processes and ensure budgetary compliance for expenditures and invoices (20%).
  • Have excellent oral and writing communications skills to assist with emails, correspondence, outreach with an eye for detail with deadlines (20%).
  • Be an ambassador for the Alliance and Economic Justice Team while participating in other duties as assigned.

  • Maintaining a professional & courteous demeanor to build and maintain high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction with Alliance partners and the Office of the Secretary.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Expertise with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong commitment to embedding pro-equity, anti-racist principles and methods into all activities and materials produced in the role.
  • Must be a flexible and fast learner, capable of producing, absorbing, and synthesizing large amounts of new information.
  • Strong commitment to lifelong learning and comfort with curiosity, improvisation, and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced knowledge of pro-equity, anti-racist principles, tools, and practices.
  • Use of interactive workflow tools, like Monday.com and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to learn and use state databases, contract procedures and other compliance necessities of DSHS.
  • Ability to work with diverse community members who often disagree, and reside in different spheres of influence (e.g., state and local government, community-based organizations).
Additional Considerations:

Note: Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave. Military Leave Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Bereavement Leave Most employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
