Position Type: Non-Certified Student Support Services/Paraprofessional Date Posted: 12/29/2023 Location: Berkley Building Blocks District: Berkley School District POSITION: Early Childhood Special Education Paraeducator Non-Exempt Position LOCATION: Berkley Building Blocks HOURS: 26-32.5 hours/week, 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM, Monday - Thursday (10 Special Fridays) COMPENSATION: Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP) QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma required: 2 years college preferred.
  • An experienced Paraeducator with background assisting a student with disabilities.
  • Applicant should have general knowledge of early childhood curriculum and possess skills in these areas at the elementary school level.
  • The applicant must be a positive, upbeat individual who is caring and flexible and must be able to adjust to the physical and emotional needs of the student.
  • Applicant must be cooperative, dependable, show initiative and accept direction.
  • Knowledge of computer assisted instruction, typing is desirable.
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention training with current record on file or willing to be trained.
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel on one of both knees, as well as physically manage student if necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional:
  • Assist student in the general education and special education classrooms.
  • Assist with independent toilet training.
  • Assist with student's participation in small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist in checking and correction of papers and/or preparation of materials under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist with audio-visual and computer setups and operation.
  • Monitor the instruction activities of the student and assist as appropriate or as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist caseload teacher with daily home-school assignment book/log.
General Responsibilities:
  • The applicant may need to assist student at snack time.
  • The applicant will maintain flexible hours of employment and adjust working time to the student's needs as determined by the classroom teacher and other school professional staff.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assist in maintaining files and records.
  • Possibility of assisting with bus runs.
  • The applicant will perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator and building administrator.
