82nd Street Academics seeks Teaching Assistant instructors for our Bright Starts Program in Jackson Heights (Queens - NY). Our program aims to provide the academic and social support needed to help students develop the skills required to lay a foundation for a college education successfully. We achieve these goals by providing a wholistic program that includes early childhood approaches to educational material and social-emotional growth. The hours of these positions are Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There are meetings and professional developments that may occur outside of these hours on occasion.Rate of Pay: $19.00 an hour. Weekly payroll.Demonstrated Abilities:
- Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an academic and extracurricular setting.
- Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings and group settings.
- Takes personal accountability for the daily requirement program outcomes and takes the initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership on a day-to-day basis for a class of 15-20 preschool students. Instructors are representatives of our agency in the school and are responsible for maintaining the school's culture.
- Support implementation of lesson plans. Much of our planning is based on Common Core Learning Standards and takes place in the exploration of learning centers!
- Monitoring and keeping a clean space and safe at all times.
- Following the schedule provided and working closely with the lead teacher.
- Ensure student safety and attendance to the program at all times. -Instructors are role models for our students. Everyone on our team must be outstanding in adherence to policies on attendance and punctuality, dress code, and setting a tone of respect in interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and day school staff members.
- Communicate with parents when there is a concern that must be resolved.
- Provide outstanding customer service and a professional, caring demeanor.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education and Experience.
- A study plan toward college graduation, an HS diploma, and a program of study for college credits is required.
- Prior experience working with Early Childhood students.
- Commitment to the program through the end of June 2024, is a non-negotiable requirement. The academic year 2023-2024.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish or another language is preferred.
- Willingness to work with students facing Societal barriers.
