TITLE: Editor, Professional/Clinical PublishingREPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Editor, Professional/Clinical Publishing BASIC FUNCTIONS:Manage project and developmental editing for new publications and assist with the editorial development of professional/clinical products. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Manage the editorial development of new professional/clinical publications and related products.2. Work with authors, editors, managers, and publishers to ensure that professional/clinical editorial content is consistent with recommendations in AAP policy statements, manuals, and other professional and patient education materials.3. Organize the collection of comments from technical reviewers and interpret and integrate comments into revised AAP products and publications.4. Collaborate with Marketing and Sales staff to develop comprehensive marketing plans for new and existing AAP products.5. Research and acquire reprint permissions for media items used in all professional/clinical publications.6. Manage the work of outside editorial and administrative consultants on professional/clinical publications.7. Manage compliance with AAP Conflict of Interest disclosure requirements for Publishing activities. Collect and document disclosures from authors and editors.8. Obtain peer review assessments of product credibility and coordinate interdepartmental evaluations of proposed projects.9. Prepare management reports as requested. Staff and attend committee meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned.10. Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or communications or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.EXPERIENCE:At least two years' related experience in writing and editing required, including public/author contact. Experience with a professional medical publisher preferred, along with experience in project management and product development.ESSENTIAL SKILLS:Knowledge of publishing practices and standards, medical terminology, and AMA writing style required. Excellent editorial, written/verbal communication, diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, project management, and organizational skills required. Strong technical acumen with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with document collaboration sites (e.g., SharePoint) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously within tight deadlines, take initiative, work both independently and as part of team, communicate with cultural sensitivity, think creatively, pay close attention to detail, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
