SUMMARY:The Basic Books Group seeks an editorial assistant to support the Publisher and Backlist Coordinator. This is a NYC based role. Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG's hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Read and evaluate submissions.Administrative work, including metadata entry and maintenance, monitoring deadlines, and circulating information.Develop relationships with and communicate with authors and agents.Write cover and catalog copy.Prepare title fact sheets and P&Ls.Prepare deal memos and liaise with the contracts department.Transmit manuscripts.Work with key departments including Publicity, Marketing, Legal, Copyediting, Managing Editorial, Design, Production, and Sales.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:1-2 years previous book publishing experience preferred (internships OK).Bachelor's Degree.Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills.Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel required; knowledge of databases and ability to produce reports a plus.Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings regardless of audience.Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively, and to balance working with multiple projects from more than one editor at once.Strong ability to ensure accuracy of work through attention to detail.How to Apply:To be considered, please submit both a resume AND a cover letter.
