SUMMARY: This is not a remote position. As an editorial assistant, you are part of a team that embraces the mission of producing K12 educational materials with a biblical worldview for Christian schools and homeschools. Your primary role is to assist editors with their projects as assigned. The tasks might include, but are not limited to, performing editor tasks for production, assisting digital resource editors, and overseeing the editor tasks for ancillary pieces. You may be asked to work either independently or under the direction of an editor. When necessary, you will assist the editors by reading PDF page proofs of BJU Press products and marking errors and inconsistencies for the editors to review. Your work increases the value of the products by ensuring their conformity to BJU Press style and departmental guidelines and lowers production costs through efficiency and attentiveness. After successful onboarding, a regular part-time employee in this position may apply for a hybrid work schedule.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist editors with specific editorial tasks as assigned
- Proofread BJU Press products and other assignments as needed
- Learn and review BJU Press style and departmental procedures; suggest updates or improvements to the lead editorial assistant or production manager as appropriate
- Uphold the BJU Press brand image and publishing standards
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong skills in English grammar, mechanics, and other characteristics of good writing
- An eye for attractive and user-friendly layout and design
- Proficiency in applying the Chicago Manual of Style and other reference sources (can be learned on the job)
- Ability to follow established procedures
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work with a team
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Computer aptitude
- Acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial test
COMPUTER SKILLS:
