Responsibilities:
- (Main purpose of the job) To develop, implement and administrate all applicable environmental, health, safety (EHS) programs as assigned.
- Responsible for site compliance with all federal, state and local environmental Programs or Health and Safety regulations.
- Provides technical support to the Medina leadership and quality, engineering, facilities, maintenance, and manufacturing staff. This position will be primarily focused on Health and Safety programs.
- Execute the elements EHSS Management System (including ISO 14001 & 45001) as necessary.
- Assist with the administration and implementation of EHS policies and programs.
- Complete program reviews, including periodic revisions and updates to standard operating procedures.
- Complete tasks related to environmental and sustainability programs including but not limited to: Air, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste (including Universal Waste), Risk Management, Recycling, Emergency Response, Spill Prevention, Stormwater Control, Wastewater etc.
- Reporting of relevant data for monthly metrics and incidents into the Information Management System Benchmark as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with existing EHSS regulations and client requirements; follows emerging EHSS regulations and issues.
- Maintain solid and hazardous waste programs.
- Proactively identify potential EHS hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections, etc., and drive timely corrective actions.
- Provide regulatory guidance and administration support on all EHS regulations.
- Perform EHS&S change assessments for new equipment, processes, or changes to the operation.
- Perform and/or assist in Industrial Hygiene monitoring.
- Provide specialized training to client employees.
- Perform investigation, root cause analysis and complete corrective action plans for safety and environmental incidents.
- Prepare and/or assist with composing agency corporate and divisional reports.
- Participate in site Emergency Response Teams for hazardous materials spills and medical response.
- Participate in the Safety Committee
- Accomplish EH&S results by communicating job expectations, initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with workers' compensation program including claims monitoring and administration, report generation, and communication with employees, managers, insurance carriers, medical staff for litigated/non-litigated claims.
- Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
- Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field required.
- Minimum 2-5 years of related experience which should include leadership experience through direct supervision or indirect leadership roles (project management, leading teams, mentoring.
- Experience with Safety programs required (Ergonomics, Risk Assessment, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, Powered Industrial trucks, Industrial Hygiene etc)
- Experience with Environmental programs preferred (Stormwater, Wastewater, Hazardous Waste, Well-Water Withdrawal, Air permitting etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as corporate policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Must have deep knowledge of OSHA regulations. Knowledge of New York specific requirements preferred.
- Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
- In-depth process knowledge of human factors and ergonomics related to manufacturing processes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting.
- Ability to analyze and interpret scientific, and statistical data.
- Strong professional writing skills and ability to prepare technical reports.
- Ability to clearly articulate information during regulatory/client inspections ·
- Ability to understand GMPs and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Strong assessment and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to respond to detailed inquiries and present information to groups and senior leaders.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use enterprise software.
- Ability to collect and analyze data and information to determine paths for process improvement and potential root cause.
