The EHS Coordinator role is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and monitoring safety programs and activities and environmental compliance across GSM Roofing and GSM Industrial. This hands-on role requires ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, developing safe work plans for projects, conducting safety training, inspecting work environments, investigating injury, vehicle and property incidents and addressing safety concerns. The EHS Coordinator leads and works closely with the Safety Committee, which sets the strategic safety direction. The EHS coordinator works in a way that aligns with GSM operating values including cooperation, flexibility, respect for team members & customers and always in a professional manner. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Safety Implementation: Carry out safety policies and procedures as directed by the Leadership Teams and with feedback from the Safety Committee, lead the Safety Committee process for GSM Roofing and GSM Industrial.
- Training and Orientation: Conduct safety training sessions for new hires and regular updates for existing employees, and as directed by GSM projects and customers.
- Inspections: Perform routine safety inspections at job sites, facilities and offices identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Incident Reporting: Investigate and document workplace incidents and near misses; including injuries, vehicle incidents and property damage incidents, and recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory requirements including environmental; ensure company practices align with these standards. Establishes relationships with regulatory agencies and manage environmental permit compliance and reporting requirements.
- Toolbox Talks: Develop and deliver short, focused safety discussions on designated schedule.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including training logs, inspection reports, and SDS updates.
- Support Workers' Compensation: Assist with reporting and follow-up on workers' compensation claims.
- T3P: Champion the (Tools-Protection-Procedures-Positioning) risk reduction philosophy.
- GSM EHS Handbook: Maintain the policies and procedures to comply with applicable regulations.
- Safety Quick Reports: Issue (SQR's) for all applicable incidents.
- PMA insurance Claim Process: Provide timely and accurate reporting of claims to PMA for WC injuries, Automobile and General Liability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; plus, additional training and certifications in safety
- Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
- Strong communication skills, both written & verbal, for interacting with employees at all levels
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Regulatory & customer reporting software)
- Prior experience in a safety-related role
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred but not required
- Authorized OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour compliance instructor for courses in construction and general industry preferred but not required
- Minimum IS instructor authorization from MSHA preferred but not required
- First Aid/CPR instructor preferred but not required
WORKING CONDITIONS:Includes controlled office environment, heavy manufacturing and industrial locations, and outside customer and jobsite visits as necessary including rooftop and climbing ladders.
