JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective environmental, health and safety programs at Choctaw Defense Manufacturing (CDMFG) facilities. This role ensures compliancewith federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility overall. The EHS Coordinator plays a key role in minimizing risks, preventing accidents, and promoting a safe working environment for all employees. This role is critical in driving a culture of safety and environmental responsibility, ensuring CDMFG not only meets regulatory requirements but also sets a standard for excellence in EHS practices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and manage comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure the plant's adherence to all regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining all necessary permits, certifications, and records.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions to minimize or eliminate hazards.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees, ensuring awareness and understanding of EHS policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Lead investigations of workplace accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all regulatory agencies related to inspections, permitting, and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans, including fire, evacuation, and spill response procedures, ensuring readiness in case of emergency situations.
  • Oversee waste disposal, recycling, and environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize the plant's environmental footprint and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS records, including safety training logs, incident reports, safety data sheets (SDS), and regulatory reports.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to integrate EHS best practices into day-to-day processes and new project lines.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the safety culture within the plant, driving continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental practices.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in safety and environmental practices by regularly engaging with industry publications, government reports, and participating in webinars and seminars.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety training programs.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessments, hazard analysis, and incident investigation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in EHS recordkeeping and regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with safety management software and tools used for incident reporting, compliance tracking, and risk management.
  • Understanding of ergonomic principles and their application in reducing workplace injuries.
  • Ability to develop and lead emergency preparedness and response plans, including coordination with local agencies and regulatory bodies during crises.
  • Capacity to implement behavior-based safety programs aimed at changing unsafe working habits and promoting a culture of proactive safety behavior.
  • Skilled in identifying, evaluating, and controlling exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the workplace.
  • Strong analytical skills to review incident trends, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous improvement in EHS practices.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in an EHS role, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sector.

PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree in environmental science, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in an EHS management role, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
  • Experience in environmental sustainability and waste management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's multiple locations.
  • Working in environments that may include exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, or additional hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to travel, up to twenty-five (25) percent of the time.
