Your OpportunityOur Guaynabo, Puerto Rico office has an opportunity for Electrical Engineer-in-Training positions. Project requirements will include detail engineering and support of distribution and substation projects (generally 12 kV to 500 kV) from conceptual design through construction supportYour Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.
  • Be an assistant liaison with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies and developing project management skills.
  • Work on a variety of projects with the liberty to advance your career down several paths within the Power Delivery sector. Contribute to a diverse company, bridging the gaps between the various sectors of infrastructure engineering Stantec operates within.
  • Perform electrical distribution and/or substation design.
  • Perform calculations based upon client's standards.
  • Develop bill of material required for construction based upon client standards.
  • Develop construction prints detailing facilities to be removed/installed.
  • Perform site field visit for verification of existing facilities and project requirements.
  • Review project scope and identify issues early on.
  • Support the day-to-day activities of the project from inception through engineering, construction, commissioning and hand-over.
  • Report the progress of the project to the Project Engineer as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites up to 20% of the work time.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • E.I.T. certification or ability to acquire within 1 year
  • A self-starter, able to resolve engineering design issues and develop project scope documents, technical reports, cost estimates and project proposals.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
  • Familiarity with software systems that are required to conduct analysis and design (GIS-based tools, MathCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe sketch software, CAD, etc)
  • Familiarity with more complex modeling tools, such as ETAP, CYMEDist, SKM, PLS-CADD, Pull Planner, etc. is a plus.
  • Understanding of project management systems (engineering, quality, construction, HSE, etc.) and willingness to develop skills further.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to develop thorough and concise explanations of difficult engineering solutions to clients or internal team members
  • Familiar with industry standards regarding distribution lines including IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, NEC.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 0-3 years of experience in the design of high voltage power delivery systems (underground design experience is a plus).
  • Experience working with a major electrical utility would be desirable.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
