Electrical Inspector for the
Aberdeen, SD area. This is an excellent full-time position that offers flexibility and a strong benefits package. A state vehicle, laptop, cell phone are provided for work purposes and travel per diem reimbursements are offered when traveling away from the home base. This is a Monday through Friday position with no weekends! There is potential of working a condensed work week if it benefits the Commission.
About the role:The Electrical Inspector inspects electrical installations and new construction to ensure compliance with electrical rules and regulations and identify hazards to life or safety. This role prepares clear and accurate written reports of all inspections and requires appropriate communication skills to interact with the public, licensees, and other staff. Electrical Inspectors attend all staff meetings and stay up to date on the latest professional education.This position requires the inspector to work in a wide variety of environments, both indoors and outdoors, including residential buildings, businesses, construction sites, and any other location where electrical installations may exist. The inspector is assigned primary location based on a department building location, but the inspector is assigned a state vehicle and the equipment necessary to work from home. This position requires daily travel to inspection sites within an assigned portion of the state and may include occasional travel as needed outside your assigned area of the state. The boundaries of the assigned area may change to meet the needs of the Commission. Frequent travel on minimum maintenance roads and all types of weather conditions may be required. Because of the nature of the work, this position carries the risk of electrical shock. The inspector may receive notifications on a state device at all times of the day but will only respond during regular working hours.

Licenses and Certifications:An applicant must have a valid driver's license. An electrical inspector license is also required. Alternatively, an applicant holding an electrical contractor or electrical journeyman license who is capable of being licensed at the electrical inspector level may be considered, provided the individual must obtain an electrical inspector license within six months of hire.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:An electrical inspector license and experience working as a licensed electrician.Knowledge of:
- applicable codes, laws, rules and regulations affecting electrical installations.
- computer hardware and software including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite.
- the National Electrical Code; and
- pertinent tools, equipment, and facilities.
Skill in:
- verbal and written communication; and
- interpreting the electrical code.
Ability to:
- inspect electrical installations and new construction to ensure compliance with electrical codes, laws, rules and regulations.
- prepare clear, concise, and accurate written reports documenting installation infractions and day to day activities.
- ensure the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- communicate information tactfully, clearly and concisely with licensees and public.
- submit required paperwork and electronic reports in a timely manner.
