- High school transcript/GED
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a custodial maintenance field required
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must have good knowledge of building maintenance
- The ability to coordinate a maintenance crew
- The ability to keep the building operating smoothly and efficiently
- The ability to cooperate in a team effort with other employees
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Applicants employed in this position must be able to perform the following tasks and functions which are fundamental to the purpose of the position.
- Responsible for the general cleaning of halls, walls, sidewalks, glass, chalkboards, bathrooms, and cafeteria, etc.
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times
- Responsible for any light maintenance tasks
- Assists in maintaining heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
- Shovels, plows and/or sands walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate
- Reports promptly any major repairs needed and/or damage to the principal/supervisor
- Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency
- Maintains suitable requisitions for supplies, tools, and equipment
- Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff under the supervision of the building principal
- Assists in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff
- Checks buildings on weekends, holidays, and emergencies
- Monitors time cards of all custodians in the building
- Performs some administrative tasks pertaining to maintenance and custodial functions under the supervision of the building principal
- Supervises other building custodians
- Other duties as may be assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Directly supervises the custodial staff within your site
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
